Blue & Brown

Posted on: December 21, 2012

Since, Today is officially the first day of Winter, I thought it was time for my faux fur vest to come out and play…  I was feeling very blue today, which I think is related to the Connecticut tragedy and the loss of my son’s school mate to brain cancer.  So  I  paired my vest with my Chambray shirt and jeggings.

When taking the photos, even my seventeen year old noticed my mood… I don’t like that at all… I am also having PMS and think this is part of it as well…The sun wasn’t shining today either.  Yesterday my son ran back in to get his shades because it was so bright now no sun and tomorrow we are expecting rain. I remember the short seven months I lived in Massachusetts during the winter months and how much I missed the sun shining.  So glad my husband moved me back to Virginia.

I really like how comfortable I am in this.  I have been wearing my shooties with heels a lot lately and really liked walking around in these flats.  Too bad I am finished with all the hustle and bustle and shopping because this would have made a great Mom on the Go look.

Time to turn on some music and get into a better frame of mind.  Might have to remove these boots as the rubber soles won’t be good for dancing!  Even writing about music and dancing already lifted my spirit!

What do you do to take care of yourself on days you feel a little off? Dear readers, your comments are welcomed and much appreciated.

Gratitude:  I am so glad today is the last day of school for my seventeen year old.  It has been really tough to have two college siblings and a home schooling one all on vacation while he still had two weeks to go…  I am grateful that tomorrow is my husband’s last day of work before his vacation.

LOVE your blog! As a mom stuck in the rut of ‘mom’ clothes your posts help me to find inspiration with my outfits. I do envy the great options your thrift stores have, we live in a poor area so the thrit shops general have donanted clothes circa 1980! ( no kidding )
I totally get your mood – I put on the radio, or the music channels on the tv, to a dance station. I may not like the music usually but the fast paced, get up and dance, tunes get me going.
Have a very Merry Christmas

I know people who go on day trips or vacations and spend a lot of time scouring thrift stores along the way since they don’t have them in their area. If you sew there are ways to refashion thrift store finds and I can show you two great bloggers who do wonders…
Yes, music is good for the soul and cures my funk…
You have a wonderful Christmas and thank you for commenting!

I often go thrifting when I’m feeling blue, but several days ago when I was feeling sad I went back and read your archives. Seeing your body change, reading what you’re thankful for, and being inspired put a smile back on my face. Thanks Tracey!

Thank you for commenting and letting me know this, it means a lot to me!

I’m sorry you were having a “down” day. You look really cute though. I live in Seattle and so we go days and days and days with rain and no sun and it gets really old. Today we had some sun and let me tell you when that light shines it is much appreciatated and certainly helps elevate my mood. On dreary days I have to remember what a beautiful place I live in and recall our trip this summer up to Hurricane Ridge and the beauty we saw that day….and keep in mind that those days will come again. Can’t be too soon for me though. I am also thankful that I am not in a place that is getting a snow storm right now.
And I agree with the other commenters…upbeat music helps.

Places were there are days without sunshine are very difficult on the human psyche… I think being consciously aware of our moods and what is driving them helps to give me at least the power to change it. Imagining a summer trip is a brilliant idea! I have often said I would definitely seek out light therapy if I didn’t live in a sunny place. My blog posts are a day behind my actual day and what a difference a day makes, see today’s post and you can tell!
