Organizing and Researching

Posted on: January 21, 2013

I spent the weekend creating organization for myself. I was so busy I didn’t have time for an outfit photo.   You see I have collected several boots over the past two years and I never had the space to store them properly.  I have a floor to ceiling rack in my closet but it isn’t modular and doesn’t fit my ankle boots or my taller ones…I purchased the bookcases below from Walmart for just $28 each…

So How do you like my solution?  Some of the boots are in boxes on the bottom shelf , others are on the top.  I added a basket of hair accessories and my tights as well as my boxes of bracelets (I ordered a vintage lot of over 100 from ebay).  Those bracelets will get moved back to my dresser when I need the space for something else, but for right now I like them there.

Since I began thrifting, I have been finding more purses and have also purchased a few much desired ones.  This led to an issue with storage as well and the second shelf solved that issue…

I hate being unorganized and feel a huge sense of relief to have solved this problem for myself.

Just for fun here is the link to the jewelry storage I got last year for Christmas and just love…

I also have this smaller one for my fine jewelry, while the bigger one is for costume jewelry. I hung them on the wall next to my dresser with the smaller one on top of the larger one.  It really has been a wonderful solution.

Gratitude: I am so grateful that I was finally feeling well enough to tackle taking down the Christmas decorations (yes they were still up, remember the flu hit my family right before New Year’s) .     I am grateful that my two youngest sons helped by dismantling the tree and boxing it up… (I removed the ornaments)… I am also grateful to my husband for putting together these book shelves and being so supportive in my rearranging the bedroom to make room.  I also greatly appreciate that once I put everything on the shelves that he so enthusiastically told me how wonderful they looked and recognized how much easier this would make it for me to put outfits together quickly.  I am grateful to my daughter for her phone call on Sunday, I love that she reaches out to me and I don’t have to do all the work in our relationship…

I have that jewelry storage in silver! I love it! I just need to find something to put my hair pieces on, so they don’t get crumpled! Love the idea of a shelf to put my handbags on!

I love your solution for organizing your boots and purses! It does make me feel a sense of calm when everything is neatly organized and has it’s place. Your idea of a bookshelf for purse storage is a great idea. That’s one area that needs help on my end! Glad to hear you got the decorations down and everyone is feeling better 🙂 Heather

Bookcases! That is genius! I love this idea and could really use this in my own closet as well. It stays pretty organized but it could definitely use some help. Thanks for the inspiration.

I have a bookcase too that we use for my hubby’s shoes. I need to organize my closet better!

Very nice, Tracey. I am especially enamored with your purses. There is a black one that you used when styling your red pants. I love that purse most of all.

i think y0u are revering to the one I dubbed “my doctor’s bag” because of the way it opens and I love that one too. I would never have so many purses without thrfting some of them, like that black one for just $4. Purses can be such a money drainer in our wardrobes and this allows me to have more options…thanks for commenting!

I am in desperate need of some serious organizing!! Thanks for inspiration!

I have a bookcase that I use for my purses as well. I also picked up some shelf dividers to help break the space up better and let the purses stand up, although I’m told I should also stuff some paper in them to help preserve their shape. That ends up sounding mostly like work.

Boots are harder – I’ve been told that a cut up pool noodle works for keeping the ones that are out of boxes standing straight and tall, but honestly I’ve taken to hanging mine using padded clips – if you have the closet space it’s a great way to keep them out of the way.

Thanks for the noodle idea much cheaper than what I was planning to get, which were $10 a piece…I did stuff my purses on the bottom 3 shelves and like how that looks so will keep it up…Thanks for commenting!

T-Rex here… I followed the link from YLF.

I love how decorative you have made that first shelf look. I know it’s harder with the bags, though. I have several vintage, decorative, structured bags that I would love to display as art as I simultaneously “store” them..but there are too many bags and not enough shelf space. I really need to purge.

Here are a couple of ways that I’ve organized my jewelry. I use coat hooks, especially the decorative kind with multiple hooks, for chunky necklaces. I have several of those dress form organizers in black, and a couple in black and in white that hang on the wall. I also look in the kitchen section of places like TJMaxx, Ross, or World Market for matching black wire organizers. I have something very similar to this , where I can hang earrings on the edge, and put bracelets on the flat parts. And I have something very much like this that I have filled with hair accessories.

I am in the process of figuring out how to store my bracelets.. Right now they are in the bins on the bookshelf. I bought a vintage lot from ebay of over 100 bracelets and am not happy with them being boxed. I’ve been searching for ideas today and I love the three tiered piece you shared… Thanks for sharing and the idea!
