Polk- A-Dots & Stripes

Posted on: January 29, 2013

Posting at 1 am as I am still awake and just in case Tuesday morning my sinuses are acting up like they were Monday Morning!!!! Love the rise in temperatures, but my sinuses don’t.. Suppose to be 65 today, but snow by Friday….

I am loving this no shopping thing as I am really exploring my closet and since beginning blogging I have been dipping my toes into the waters of Pattern Mixing.. Pardon me,  if I keep repeating myself about the no buying thing and really working my closet… For someone who is a weekly thrifter, this is such a new and marvelous opportunity to dig into my closet and create!

I love this scarf and was inspired to try it with the green striped sweater since there is that color polk- a -dot in the scarf… This would definitely work as a spring outfit without the jacket and some pumps instead of boots…

IMG_1781I took these photos on Sunday with my 12 year old late in the afternoon as the sun was setting so it was pretty cold and we did it very quickly… So glad for the warm up in temperatures!!!!  I may even get to forgo my boots for a day and wear pumps!!!!

IMG_1777I am so glad I embraced the pattern mixing trend and feel much more comfortable with it than I did in the beginning.  Have you embraced this tend?  Did you find it strange at first?  Are you more comfortable after giving it a go?  Chime in Readers, I love hearing from you!

Gratitude:  I am grateful to my husband for getting me sinus medication yesterday when my head hurt so bad I couldn’t move (nice reaction to the 10 degree increase in temps, wonder what another 25  degree increase Tuesday will bring?)  I am grateful that the sinus medications worked and I made it out of bed by noon.. I am grateful that I took two sets of outfit photos on Sunday!  I am grateful for all the comments left yesterday by my dear readers!

I haven’t tried mixing patterns! You look great!

Are you interested in trying it or steering clear?

Its not for me.

Pattern mixing can be tricky, but starting out in small doses is a great first step. You did a great job and your scarf is so pretty!

Thank you that is one of my favorites…that says a lot for a scarf addict…

Pattern mixing is definitely a skill that requires practice and does not come easily to me. I’m working on it, though. Great look today. That hat was made for you.

Thank you and I agree pattern mixing takes practice.

I love your scarf Tracey! So glad to hear you’re exploring some of the options you have within your own closet – that’s certainly been something I’ve discovered with my 30 x 30 challenge and I’m really excited about all the different possibilities with the rest of my closet.
This outfit is such a fun and subtle take on pattern mixing that I could see myself wearing 🙂 I’m still a little too timid to jump all the way in with the trend but am trying to do little bits of print mixing here and there.

Yes I think my exploring my closet is similar to your current journey and you are much braver than I am.. Since bloggers seem to include shoes in the 30 count, I will never participate. Right now I have the luxury of choosing between 10 pairs of knee high boots, and 4 pairs of booties and would not want to restrict that at all… Winter doesn’t last too long here for me to give up one month of boot wearing…

As one of my commenters noted Pattern mixing can be tricky, so best to dabble and start slow…

I absolutely love this outfit, Tracey! One of my very favorites. The top and purse are just too cute. And the little jacket looks great on you. I cannot wear mine that length. It does not work well with my figure, unfortunately.
Nice job with the pattern mixing too.

Hi there! Loving your blog, my name is Katie Elliott I am the creator of Tag a Trend.co.uk (www.tagatrend.co.uk) The website works like this: each week I announce a new fashion trend, and people then tag themselves on Facebook wearing that trend. This is done by tagging their picture with the Tag a Trend Facebook page. The best pics then appear on my site.
This week’s trend is skinny jeans and as can see you are loving the trend, I thought you might be interested in getting involved and tagging yourself in your fave pair. The picture will appear on both my site and Facebook (both with a direct link back to your blog.)
Look forward to hearing from you!
Katie

I do not know how to tag my picture with your page and all attempts I tried were unsuccessful.. Can you provide instructions for someone who doesn’t have a clue that to do?

Ok, not to worry! And of course! Firstly you must like the ‘Tag a Trend Facebook page’ at http://www.facebook.com/TagATrend then upload your picture to your Facebook account, and tag the page in your picture. If this does not work, you can add the picture to the Tag a Trend wall, or simply email the images to kte20@hotmail.com I’ll look forward to your pics!!!! x

Thanks! I like the page and tried to tag it on my facebook page but it did not work.. I even got my more savvy teenager to look at it and it didn’t work so adding it to the Tag a trend wall seems easiest….

Ohh sorry about that! There does seem to be a few teething problems for a few people recently- it seems to be selective about who it works for!! If all else fails, a few people have been emailing pics to kte20@hotmail.com – good luck and thanks for getting involved!!! x
