My First Ever Maxi Dress

Posted on: June 2, 2013

As a petite size woman I feared a maxi, especially when I was overweight as I saw others doing that look and didn’ t like it. I must add that my hips were totally out of proportion when I gained weight and that you don’t necessarily have to be thin to rock a Maxi, it is more about proportion and being a petiite that created the issue for me.   So, being so close to goal weight, I thought it was time to give it a try again….

I never imagined that I would end up with what I refer to as a ‘Bubble gum or Barbie pink one…. But as a Dressing Your Truth Type One  it makes perfect sense…. Well it’s Visible Monday and Watch What I’m Wearing and My Greatest Hits,  so this color works!

I did not end up going for a second night at the beach.  Increasing my weight workouts from 8lbs to 15 pounds each and dancing Friday night really left my body aching.  I must say that doing Yoga stretches really does help and I highly recommend them after working out and again in the morning first thing….

Since I opted out of another beach concert, we switched our date night to a movie.  Not just any movie, but a Premier night of Internship with Vince Vauhn and Owen Wilson.  We didn’t know it was a Premier until security announced it and told us no recording devices and gave us papers telling us the consequences. They weren’t kidding they had security watching  the audience the entire time.  We did forget about them and enjoyed the movie immensley! Our favorite line was when one said to the other that he was a child of the 70’s and he grew up with out internet, sunblock or seatbelts, Then asked him what his seat belt was and he threw his arm out and said his mother’s arm.

My husband complimented me several times on the dress and the color, so I thought he was on board with me in a Maxi…. While in Walmart he saw a few other women in Maxi’s and turned to me and said, ” So, what’s with women and this Amish dress trend?”

Dear Readers, I am so happy I embraced my fear of Maxi’s and did so in such a big way with the color.  Do you have a fashion fear that you should address to see if it’s real?  Since one of my main blogging goals is to share my enthusiasm for fashion and playing in my closet, I hope to inpire you to DARE to Go Somehere New… That being said, I am neve r going to dare to wear CAMO…. Just never gonna happen!   Do you have a “Never Gonna Happen”  of your own??

In place of my usual Gratitude Section, today, I am going to put something I hope will insprie you and if you are a mother to use as a teaching tool.   I found this on Pinterest ….

Your dress is beautiful! I’ve never worn a maxi dress either, but I really like the style. I’m hoping to get one for this summer.

Where did you buy your dress?

Tracey, the maxi looks great on you. I do love the color on you too. I have two of them and I like them; they’re easy to put on and forget about.

Would love to see you post a picture wearing one! What colors do you have?

I got mine at Burlington Coat Factory for just $14.99. I am lucky to have one so close to me…

I too am slightly afraid of maxis but this looks great on you!

It is intimidating isn’t it? Thanks for commenting…

You look great! Love the dress !

Thank you! Hope you are having a wonderful weekend with your daughter!

Beautiful! I just love maxi dresses. I have several in different styles, including one very similar to yours but in a different color. Word to the wise, be very careful when going down escalators. I got the hem of one of my dresses caught at the bottom and ripped! It was awfully embarrassing and scary! Yikes!

You look great in the maxi. You chose a pretty color and pattern for summer. Love it with the denim jacket too.

And I can guarantee that it wont be your last since you look stunning in it! The denim jacket is a great addition too 🙂

Thank you, and you are right I am looking at them a lot now…

You look fabulous in your maxi, Tracey! Love the vibrant color too. Thanks for sharing with Visible Monday.

I think the maxi looks great on you – especially with the denim jacket! It’s always great to face our fears, fashion or otherwise. Especially since usually those fears turn out to be unwarranted.

Yes, fashion fears often aren’t rooted in reality and I hope my journey helps others to see that.

Girl, look at you! Love that dress and I’d kill for arms as toned as yours! BTW I’m stealing your Pinterest chart 😉

No stealing involoved it is an awesome one that should be shared! Thanks, those arms are from hard work and I am finally seeing it pay off…

What a great look! I’m proud of you for addressing your fears! I finally broke down and bought skinny jeans a few years back, but I’m still scared of wearing them most of the time.

Your husband’s comment about Amish dresses is pretty hysterical! 😉

Thank you a good luck with those skinny jeans!

I too only braved the maxi dress look in the last 6 months – great work 🙂

Lovely. So pretty, you in the dress! And a lovely attitude to go with it!
So glad you had fun in it … you’ve earned it.

thank you can’t wait to wear it again at the beach concert night..
