Versatile Style by Tracey

Archive for the ‘Brown’ Category

Today, I was suppose to go to my Weight Watcher meeting and had this outfit all planned out.

Getting enough sleep reigns supreme in my life, so I opted to go back to bed and get some much

needed rest, as too many nights in a row without had taken it’s toll.

Here is the outfit I had ready for the day.

When I put it on and looked in the mirror , I instantly thought

“Oh , there I am! ”

It became glaringly obvious to me that I have not been myself

these last 6 months and even my style choices  were exhibiting that.

The awesome vest adds just the right wonderful element of texture to the tone on tone look.

It is by Indigo Thread, a very boho company I adore.

Here is the link to my vest which is limited to one color now and Here is all the vests they offer now.

My turtle necklace was handmade by sister and is much loved and cherished.

My saddle bag style cross-body purse is by Naturalizer and sold out.

This will probably be last purse purchased for a while as I am pretty satisfied with what I have.

I did recently throw away my beautiful green leather one and told my kids and husband that they should put in on my

birthday wish list as it was the first purse I bought myself after years of using diaper bags and sadly was beyond repair.

I love how my hair color bookends the purse shade.

One last note , if you haven’t tried block heeled shoes yet,

I highly recommend it as these are so comfortable to walk in.

Alas they too are Naturalizers and sold out because I always buy off season on clearance.

Gratitude

I am grateful that I took care of me today and skipped my WW meeting because nothing replaces the need for sleep. As for my WW journey so far,

it has been a slow first month with just over 3lbs lost, but I have managed to use my Simply Fit board to lose 3 inches from the 7 I gained in my stomach from menopause!

I am grateful that my husband too got to catch up on sleep and didn’t have to go to work until 2:30pm today!

I am grateful that my kids are so supportive of each other and truly care deeply.

I am grateful that our allergy laden Lhasa Apso is currently at the vet with two of my adult kids.

Some days I feel like an outfit of Neutrals,

however that doesn’t mean boring.

img_4535

You might notice my brown pants have a faux leather front , which of course adds

an element of texture to this look.

Alas these fabulous pants by Diane Gilman are from previous season.

img_4545

Here is a close up of the alligator like design.

DH did a double take at my look today and quite to my surprise complemented it.

He’s not much for all neutrals or my love of kimonos ,

so his approval meant more.

img_4539

Here you can see that the back of the pant is a knit

While these pants are great, these boots are my new Vionic,

my first of what I hope to be a yearly addition for boot comfort.

I had wanted a lighter pair of ankle boots,

so it was nice to embrace the comfort in something that was on my wish list.

They come in 4 other shades including merlot and navy.

img_4540

I found this cute owl scarf on Jane and just had to have it

as I have loved owls for most of my life and collected them as a child.

I added the leave pin for just a bit of bling and thought it was a good play off the branches on the scarf

img_4542

My mocha open kimono sweater is from Jane, bought previous season.

After a week of migraines, this neutral look felt just right  and had

a calming nature that was just what I needed for today.

After all , I have said it before, I am a mood dresser and use outfits for energy some days.

Dear Readers I have mentioned my love of Diane Gilman pants and with all the talk about the Velvet

Trend for the season, thought you might enjoy these pants in great colors.  She had a bootcut version I found over the summer on clearance that I bought it Navy and Grey.    I look forward to styling them soon.  Note, I recommend her line because I love it and do not receive compensation .

Gratitude

I am grateful to be feeling a little better today ( sinus issues today) after beginning the week with a terrible migraine , that came back every afternoon.

I am grateful to my daughter for taking today’s photos as my son was still deep into his homeschooling in which he is writing note cards in preparation of doing CLEP exams.

I am grateful that I’ve done most of the xmas shopping for my daughter and can now begin the boys.

I am grateful for staying on track and losing about half a pound per day this week.

Well, I loved this outfit in the mirror,

but don’t think I quite captured it right…

First of all I took photos in the morning around 10:30am and that was a mistake…

IMG_4228

This outfit has a lot of matchy-matchy elements with the blue flats, purse and necklace,

but that’s  precisely what I liked about it.

I like a column of color like the creme top and bottoms and the addition of a printed topper all in neutral shades and then the addition of a brighter pop of color in acessories.

It’s a different way of doing color than I’ve done in the past.

Definitely an outfit formula I’d like to explore more.

Perhaps I could have chosen a plain silver or gold necklace instead to be less matchy.

IMG_4233

Here is a close up of the new Joan Rivers Cardigan in brown.

This line runs very big, as I am wearing an XS.

It comes in a black and white and magenta and black.

I love browns a lot and know this one will be very versatile for me.

Ollio Women's Ballet Comfort Light Faux Suede Multi Color Shoe Flat(7.5 B(M) US, Blue) Ollio http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00GM08Z0E/ref=cm_sw_r_pi_dp_ip6Zwb0MMT5PM:

These are my shoes from Amazon,

Blues are so big for the season and I need flats for my Mom on the Go style.

Dear readers, I hated the other pictures I took of this look, as I pulled the sweater closed instead of letting it hang naturally, which meant it didn’t create the vertical lines I need to break up this stupid menopausal weight gain in my mid-region.   I just couldn’t see me posting pictures I wasn’t comfortable with.. All this experience did was make me grateful that I am on day three of my banana and protein kick start and for my commitment to Pilates exercizing.

Gratitude

I am grateful that my son got a new high score of 191 at howling today , as he inches closer to the goal he has of reaching 200.

I am grateful that we decided to just stay after the morning bowling league instead of going home , then back out the the bowling clinic in the late afternoon.  We are both having sinus issues and crashed later in the day!

I am grateful that my husband is supporting my needs for proteins on this current diet I am using to kick start my way off carbs and took me shopping to BJ’s to stock up.

I am grateful that I ventured outside today to pick up those pesky newspaper ads that were in my driveway at the exact time my mailman came to deliver and that we shared a short chat and a laugh!  He actually joked about no packages today, as I’ve been ordering clothes for my son and some kitchen gadgets and other items along with some new things for myself.

I am grateful for the love and support of our homeschooling team and how it benefits not just me, but has given me Mom of teens friends!

The Brooch is coming back into Style,

and I’ve worn a few of my mothers on a necklace and on my boho w

raps. DSC_3106-2 (1)

I felt like a Zen neutral look for the day…

It’s still has enough interest for me with the hi-low contrast of the different shades of tan and brown

and the subtle print in the Old Navy sweater and the Snakeskin bag.

DSC_3098-3

A close up of my mother’s pin.

I love having her pieces to cherish and wear , not to just keep in my jewelry box.

Check out JodiesTouchofStyle blog for ways they are wearing brooches this week.

I’ve wanted a Joan Rivers Bee Brooch for a long time and finally caved in buying one this week, when I saw this one on Instagram as a memorial one for Joan.

DSC_3097-2

I am so glad I found this open poncho on Jane.com,

as it’s become a favorite this season.

I really need to taper off my addiction of looking at Jane.com daily as I see

so many things I love and the pressure to buy since they go away or sell out so quickly.

I’ve recently bought some tops for Summer in Yellow, Coral and Light Blue (Serenity, Pantone’s color of the Year)

Self Care

I am proud to say it’s day four of owning my Aeropilates and I’ve used it everyday.

I am actually looking forward to it daily, as one of my goals was to have a strong back and abs to help with my sciatica,

and these workouts definitely are going to strengthen those areas.

In addition, upon the recommendation of a friend who has had success with this,

I began adding Collagen  to help with joint pain I was having in my knee and hip, but also to help with my nails , which have always broken due to housework, lol.

Dear Readers , What are you doing lately for Self Care?  Wishing you a wonderful weekend with something fun on you to do list to recharge you to face another week!

Gratitude

I am grateful that my homeschooler took the initiative to take out my Aeropilates machine in between his subjects today to do a workout, which prompted me to do mine as well.  I think I still may do one at my regular evening time frame for two for the day!

I am grateful that my daughter handled her rejection letter for PHD program at Boston College well, she loves the Boston area and really wanted to stay longer, but she immediately said that she didn’t like the actual school or program, so it’s really for the best.

I am grateful that I forced myself to get dressed today, as I was feeling blue and thought about staying in my pj’s. Getting dressed in a boho outfit always lifts my spirits and after seeing the photos it sparked even more joy.

I am grateful that after getting dressed I took a walk to the grocery store ,which also helped to lift my blue mood and I picked up some healthy snacks of fruits and vegetables!

Today I was suppose to be styling a Vest for

the private challenge….

I tried with this look, but didn’t like it , so took it off and went for a poncho,

they never disappoint this boho loving woman!

DSC_3047-3

I tried this with my sherpa vest and fringe congnac booties, but

didn’t like it, probably because the vest goes out right at the widest part of my

hip and was not at all flattering….

Check out this blog about wearing Navy and Brown, that came to mind when my

first outfit choice wasn’t working and I was standing there in all Navy!

DSC_3053-2

I don’t know what it is about a poncho that just makes my heart sing,

but I could wear one almost daily, but then I’d miss my leather jackets and cardigans,

so alas I change it up and wear them just often enough!

DSC_3057-3

I should have taken a close up of my Charming Charlie

fun Paisley necklace that unfortunately is sold out.

I am upset that somewhere along the way I lost one of my orange hoops that DD gave me ,

fingers crossed I lost it in the house and not on my trip to the grocery store.

Self Care

Today was a rough day with intense sinus pressure headache the entire day…I am proud to say

that when I made a quick run to the store I resisted my normal “go to” of grabbing a Pepsi Max

and getting back into my caffeine addiction.

Gratitude

I am grateful for a fun conversation with Facebook friends about Ikea , as I’ve never been and a potential road trip in the near future with possibly 4 of us going.

I am grateful that my son understood my headache and did his homeschooling and chores without me having to tell him repeatedly, lol… I am grateful that he is a sensitive compassionate young man.

I am grateful that even not feeling well, that I got dressed and went for a short walk to the store.

I am grateful that my husband agreed that I should get another Sunlight Lamp as I have been in a funk (I am blaming it on menapause, lol) for two days and my old lamp is broken.

I absolutely love my new Auburn hair color and recieved compliments

before even leaving the salon.

DSC_2643-2

I let my stylist pick the color and am glad I did!

I’ve been going to the same stylist for the past 9 or more years,

so of course I trust him, in fact he’s the only person whose ever colored my hair.

DSC_2639

I actually love my new hair even more after seeing it photographed with my

neutral outfit of the day.

I am so happy I added these Loft tan jeans to my wardrobe this season.

In fact all three of these pieces were bought for this season, the tunic top is by Kate & Mallory, a line on Evine Live that I love, but of course I bought on clearance ,so no longer available.

The Cardigan is a Susan Graver via Qvc, found here in many colors.

DSC_2640

I can remember not so long ago when I steered clear of neutral looks,

but when done like this,  with hi-l0w tones of the same color family and with pattern in the top and handbag,

as well as textture in the scarf , boots and purse, my heart sings.

DSC_2649

It was a colder but sunny and windy day,

the best kind of winter day in my book.

Today in Self-Care

Well, of course my date with my hairstylist.  I should also add my walk to the store to stock up on more yogurts to keep me in on track.   I should note here too , that yesterday when at the bowling alley with my boys, we ate dinner.  I never eat at the bowling alley as the food doesn’t meet my health requirements.  I went for french fries and chicken tenders.  I ate every bite and felt no guilt.  I was especially happy when the scale didn’t budge in either direction after that meal.  I did eat well for the remainder of the day, so I know that helped.  I’ve been perfect for 6 days, so I guess I was feeling the need. I call this self care because if I didn’t allow the splurge, I would probably resort to small ones every day that would really sabotage my efforts.

I’ve always loved Pink paired with Brown.

Which is why I added the polk a dot tunic and striped sweater

to my style for the season.  I’ve always loved Pink paired with Brown.

DSC_2356-2

Of course, I bought them seperately with no intention of pairing them together.

I originally paired this look with a chocolate brown boyfriend sweater, but it was just too much brown.

When I spied this Liz Lange sweater ( sold out) , the outfit went up a notch and gave me that pep in my step!

DSC_2359-2

Of course wearing my Payless Comfort plus pumps helped to put that pep in my step.

I seriously think I may be addicted to this line of pumps as they are the perfect heel height

and so comfortable that I can wear them all day!

I just had to run to my closet and count how many I have and it’s 6 pairs !

DSC_2329-3

Here is what I wore yesterday, it was raining all day and the pictures didn’t come out well.

I am wearing Old Navy Pixie Pants and Chambray top, a Glitterscape sequin navy top

faux shearling vest via Jane.com , navy boots bought in Ireland.

DSC_2383-2

I’ve had my Diane Gilman jeans for awhile and love them.

The line going down the side is actually a zipper detail.

I collect Diane Gilman Jeans , but I  won’t run and count those, lol!

Dear Readers, The Black Friday online purchases have started arriving and today,

I got the biggest kick out of the DSW package

IMG_20151201_124526

Can you believe that even with a 30% off deal on that purchase, that I didn’t even look for shoes for myself!

Yes, I am not tempted to shop!

Gratitude

I am grateful that after waking up at a crazy 5:24 am today, that I was able to go back and take a nap!

I am grateful that the morning rain went away, allowing me to take photos today.

I am grateful for the fun and anticipation that goes along with the holidays .

I am grateful for sappy Hallmark movies to get me in the mood… now if only we find the energy to get the Christmas decorations out of the attic in the next few days…

I’ve had this outfit idea in my head for quite awhile now and was

absolutely delighted to finally put it together!

DSC_2029

I added this wonderful wrap from Jane .com for this season.

Everything else I’ve had for a few seasons.

I am not much of an outfit repeater, having to change something about the look,

for this one I like it so much , I may just change the turquoise necklace( a birthday gift from friends)

out for another pop of color.

DSC_2038

Not only was I delighted to finally wear this outfit that has been a vision for a few months,

but I also had the special treat of DH being home when I put this together and he kept

complimenting it and said he loved the dark brown border on this.

Ladies, this is progress, for a man who tolerates my boho style , but isn’t a lover of it.

He took my photos today, giving my son a break and he kept the compliments coming…

DSC_2032

While I am a lover of color, there are days its’ fun to wear

neutrals and when it has such wonderful features as this one it hits the right note.

The different shades of brown, the texture in the snakeskin purse and the fringe,

offers just the right amount of interest.

The touches of silver in my hoop earrings, necklaces and bracelets creates a nice balance.

DSC_2047 (1)

My husband likes the added hardware of the zippered legs of my

Diane Gilman Jeans.

I liked wearing the classic Aerosoles mules.

Gratitude

I am grateful that my husband is finally coming around with my love of ponchos and wraps that are a  big part of my boho styling.

I am grateful that I was feeling better today, as yesterday I had body aches and a low grade fever.

I am grateful that I am well on my way to Christmas shopping for my daughter ,as it’s been awhile that I have had wonderful suruprises for her for Christmas, she is a list maker and I’ve missed this.

I am grateful for a few Halloween happenings to look forward to this week.  Fun Events are great for my happiness levels on gray days like today..

I am grateful for the fun my husband has been having with our youngest, making cupcakes, carving a pumpkin and making mashed potatoes together and teaming up to get up the falling leaves.

I’ve had this paisley top for a few years now and never tire of it.

Today’s GYPO Fall Challenge Oufit was suppose to be

denim jeans, a print top and a tan blazer.

DSC_1866

I didn’t want to wear blue jeans so soon because

I don’t wear them that often normally.

So I decided to debut my new tan jeans bought for the season.

Of course they are my favorite jean designer, Diane Gilman

I really bought them in June in preparation along with a creme color and they are not available now.

I actually had on a denim jacket to completely turn the outfit formula upside down.

It was bowling day and that jacket kept me warm…

Upon coming home I took it off at it was in the high 70’s .

DSC_1874

I love the gorgeous greens, pinks and purples in this top.

I also liked that it gave me a chance to use my 31bag ,

a gift from a dear friend.

DSC_1888

I am gettting tired of all these outfits with pants.

Tomorrow I’ve adapted a change to the suggested challenge formula,

to incorporate a skirt.

It’s been hard adapting this to my warmer temperatures as well,

as some outfits have called for scarves and as much as I love a scarf,

I am just not ready to wear them yet.

Gratitude

I am grateful that my oldest son was ok after his crazy accident this morning. He had is window cracked about two inches and when leaving his apartment complex a rock spit out of the lawn worker machinery and found that 2 inch open window and sent the rock flying right into the side of his forehead, breaking the skin and causing a nice lump.

I am grateful for the fun my 19 year old college son is having cooking and the pictures he sends me of his ventures. Recently it was his made from scratch tomato soup and tonight it was making mashed potatoes with his new stand mixer. I feel blessed that he shares this journey with me!

I am grateful that my daughter called me today(she had been calling me almost daily and had gone 5 days without doing so)  and despite living off of 5 hours of sleep daily is getting use to her crazy schedule of her master’s degree program and internship. She’s figthing a sinus infection and sounded very congested , but is an optimist like her mother looking at the bright side of things.

I am grateful for a wonderful day of homeschool bowling with my youngest , who after a down turn in his game due to the summer break and his new ball, is back on the upswing with a great three game series. He is walking taller and has his confidence back. This was getting scary because on Monday when his Dad came home and offered to take him for practice, he refused and said he would rather homeschool…That was downright scary that he was ready to give this up.

If you are a Regular Reader of My Blog,

You know my love of Ponchos….

I had all solid colored ones, until this Season,

because I found a striped version.

DSC_1605

My Poncho is by Liz Lange via HSN and comes in three colors.

It’s on clearance for $34.95 in regular and plus sizes and can be worn two ways

as there are buttons on my shoulder in this photo, that can be turned to go down the center.

Just a reminder that I make no profit from my blog in showing you items I love.

DSC_1612

I doubled up a Charming Charlie’s pink necklace with a Jane

pink tassel necklace for a little more impact.

DSC_1623

My Jeans are again Diane Gilman from a few years ago.

I pulled the pink accessories out of the print of my Aerosoles Wedges.

I’ve had these wedges in black with floral print in red, blue and green for a few years ,

so added this print as a new option.

They also come in a few solid color options.

Dear Readers, Our temperatures switched from the high 80’s to the low 70’s today.

I hope that means we are past the worst of the heat and humidity.

Hoping you are getting a glimpse of Fall?

If you are in warmer temps, are you like me and pretending it’s Fall by wearing more pants and darker shades,

or are you more patient and wearing your summer clothes?

Gratitude

I am grateful I fell back asleep after an initial early wake up.

I am grateful that my son is doing a reasonably good job homeschooling,                                                                              despite his brother being home on Fall break.

I am grateful that my son did chores today without my having to ask twice.

I am grateful my son home from college helped clean the kitchen , giving me one day off…

I am grateful for a phone call from  my daughter as we plan all her  time off and potential trips home.
