Versatile Style by Tracey

I love trying out dresses from

This is one I got from there and it’s a gauzy lined one with 3.4 sleeves and aztec embroidery.

I assumed when looking at this one, that it would indeed be too short for me to wear as a dress,

but would make a great tunic and layering piece for Fall/Winter.

It was quite a windy day and made for fun trying to get my

sweater to cooperate.  I love the multi media sweater I bought on clearance

over the summer because it is lighter weight and a good option for these days of hot flashes.

The good news is that is was a wonderful Sunny Day!

I want to note that as a petite woman, it works best when layering this length ,

to have the dress or tunic and sweater length to be similar , creating only one

horizontal break. Shorter jackets or sweaters just make for the wrong proportions.

My burgundy leggings are by Kate & Mallory found HERE,

and part of my switching from cheap F21 leggings to Ponte knit versions.

I’ve had great sucess with both these and the Old Navy ones.

My purse and shoes are both thrifted items , which I get a lot of use from.

Dear Readers, two days with no migraines makes for a happy Tracey, lol!

I was able to do a make up coffee date, which turned into mall walking and  dinner too,

7 with a dear friend before she takes off for a 3 month

trip to see her children and grandchildren, which made for a good day!

Wishing You All A Fabulous Weekend!!!!

I am grateful for a fun day with a dear friend.

I am grateful for a fun chat with my daughter as she discussed things she wants to do when she comes home for Thanksgiving!

I am grateful for the extra sleep (I fell back asleep after an inital 8am. wake up and awoke at 12:45!)

I am grateful for the love of family and friends, and for my Dear Readers and fellow bloggers.

I ‘ve come to really realize how much I love Navy and

blue colors in my wardrobe.

Linking up today with APocketful of Polka dots and Penniless Socialite, so

many wonderful bloggers for you to explore.

Warning, not my best pictures…

It was quite a windy day…Sometimes that makes for the best photos…

Not the case for today, lol!

My necklace is new, bought from one of GYPO style challengers

who was selling off some pieces for a mission trip.

I had my sleeves pushed up a bit most of the day, to showcase my bracelets.

The blue one is my princess one bought from a Castle in Ireland.

My Sweater is light weight and wanted to blow, I am holding in place, lol

I adore printed pants and their versatility.

These are a pair of Diane Gilman Jeans that I’ve had awhile.

It seems she only does printed versions for Spring/Summer.

I also like Old Navy pixie pants that offer a few patterned options.

I found a tan and creme striped cardigan at Goodwill and loved it so much last season,

that I just had to add more striped versions before I began my no shopping ban.

I , of course found this Liz Lange on clearance and it was part of her Spring line.

I loved the pattern mixing in this look and the pop of yellow from the purse.

I love the comfort of my payless pumps , but have told DH I would like to replace these round toed for a pointed toe version.  I even took him in the store and showed them to him, requesting them for Christmas, fingers crossed.

Dear Readers, I loved the feeling today after my treadmill exercising yesterday.  I cleaned up a lot today, so am ready to do another workout tomorrow.  And go figure I am looking forward to it!   I love the feeling of strength training and have spurts of loving cardio , so hoping that instead of a spurt that I can indeed make this a lifetime change.   I did do some strength training today!

I am grateful for the moment when I found a blush called Sexy Booster by Physicians Formula, that a friend had given me awhile ago.  I opened it and smelled the “Pheromone Blend & Seductive Scent”  and instantly handed it to my husband and asked what that smelled like to him… He answered “Vegas”  Exactly like the smell at the Hard Rock Hotel we stayed at, lol!

I am grateful that my husband had a sale today and still made it home in time to watch his much anticipated Patriots- Miami Game  and for the fun of listening to his cheering his team on as I type this.

I am grateful for my husband’s compliment of today’s look and was surprised at how much he liked the pants, I knew of course he’d like the heels, lol

I am grateful for my husband’s work schedule and how much he’s been around this past week and all the time for extra hugs.

There is nothing I love more than a Dress that offers a variety of

styling options that make it work for several seasons.

Take this new floral shirt dress from TJ Maxx online (sold out )

I can wear it now when we have temperatures in the mid 70’s.

IMG_4097 (2)

Hat from Amazon for just $6.74

The sleeves are sheer so offer coverage without being too warm, so for early Fall

and Spring it can be worn without a top layer , unless of course I opt for a vest.

Once cooler Fall temps arrive, I could easily add tights , booties or knee high boots.

The opportunities for toppers are a wide range due to the navy background.

If I ignore the other colors and concentrate on the Navy, I had certain color combos come to mind

and I tried them out and they all worked.

Some Examples of this are

Mustard Yellow

Kelly Green

In addition I can play off colors in the Print  to add toppers in

Hot Pink

I also tried Pattern Mixing with a Navy & White Striped Cardigan

By Changing different boots,  booties, sandals, and pumps , there

are so many options available to me for just this one dress.

That is the very reason I want to do this no shop year, to really explore the versatility of items I own.

To really push my creativity and see how many ways I can style a piece is why I started blogging and chose my blog name.  I would have showed some other options for this dress, but alas, I’ve been dealing with sinus headaches, so that will wait for another post.

I am so grateful that after several days of intense sinus pressure headaches, I finally had full relief late this afternoon.

I am grateful that I opted to go back to sleep after waking up just feeling lousy and that I indeed succeeded in actually falling back to sleep.

I am grateful that my homeschooling teen stepped up and didn’t take advantage of my need for sleep and did his scheduled assignments and even unloaded the dishwasher!

I am grateful for a great weekend and after a bit of a fiasco , finally getting my son the right size pants at great prices.

I am grateful for the fun Sunday of watching my best freinds daughter living her dream of performing on stage in her first play.  She was a munchkin in the Wizard of Oz.

I love extending Summer Dresses for All Seasons

With Summer Temperatures Still Hanging Around,

A simple addition of my thrifted jean jacket, made it work for going out to dinner.

I am chomping at the bit , to wear this dress with my mint leather jacket ,

I bought new for the coming season.

I’ve even picked out a scarf that I’d like to pair with it…

Yes, that’s how a fashion blogger survives the extension of  Summer weather,

dreaming of ways to wear items for the colder temperatures.

I love layering and Fall and Winter,

It’s a much more creative time for a blogger ,

who uses fashion as her artistic outlet.

One thing I do miss once that time comes,

is wearing stacks of my vintage bracelets.

Dear Readers, Tonight was my monthly

Parents Night Out and we went to Olive Garden for dinner.

I shared with them my Olive Garden story…

My husband and I originally met one night in a dive bar, he was there with Navy friends celebrating someone getting out,  and I was there with my sister and her guitar playing boyfriend who happened to be the entertainment for the night.  We had a brief conversation, where apparently I did something unusual and told him where I worked… A few weeks later he came into the Norfolk , Olive Garden where I worked as a new hire for a second job( he was in the Navy after all).  The minute I saw him I ran to the kitchen to my best friend who was cashiering and said, “oh my God, Did you see the new guy!”  Again a very unusual thing for me to do… We ended up hanging out in a group, and then one day while at work while talking to him,  I gave him my signature sarcastic look.   He immediately recognized that I was the girl from the bar and the reason he’d gotten the job there.  He asked me if I remembered him coming up and speaking to me that night, you have to know it was a brief conversation as I had noticed when he was talking to me that his party of friends were heading out the door and he dashed after them…  Once he began telling me of the line he used on me that night, which I will keep private,  I indeed realized we had spoken at that dive bar….

January 15 we will celebrate our 25th anniversary…

If anyone is intersted in Purchasing Yankee Candles, my son is participating in a fundraiser for his bowling to help cover the costs of competitions.  All the profits go into an account direclty for him.

I’ve been taking it easy after injuring the back of my knee when exercising

and aggravating my sciatica by standing for two days of bowling competitions…

Walking is fine standing in one place, not so much..

Thank Goodness for the GYPO Spring Challenge, as I could get dressed without too much thought.

Today’s outfit formula was a floral skirt, black top and colored sweater.

With temperatures still cooler, I opted to wear the maxi, I bought for this challenge.

Even with my pain, getting dressed made me feel better…

Wearing a fedora and my Ying /Yang necklace can do that to a woman!

I am loving this orange sweater I thrifted and the reason to wear orange blush and lipstick.

Doubling up on silver bracelets took warmed my boho side…

Dear Readers, I happened upon a wonderful website for Man Style!

Looktastic is a wonderful site that allows you to add pieces your man owns and then shows you ideas on how to style them and even offers options for a new piece to add that would work well.  I can’t wait to explore this more and add in more pieces that are currently in my husband’s closet.

I am grateful that my pain wasn’t as bad today as it was on Monday.

I am grateful for the muscle rub cream my husband strategically used for my shoulder and lower back.

I am grateful that my husband had most of the day off and hung out at home, even if it did mess up our homeschooling day.

I am grateful for a new program on Executive Training for Adolescents that I got in hopes of helping my homeschooler take more responsibility for his education.

I am grateful that my homeschooler started a new book today and read 6 chapters and hope he keeps it up.

I am grateful for the laughter I shared with my daughter as she called me squealing from her apartment near Boston College, where she had just encountered a mouse in her bedroom…

I’ve been feeling kind of stuck in a rut with my skinny pants,

especially since I’ve had a ten pound weight gain…

To boost my self today, I opted for my Diane Gilman

black trouser jeans.. I haven’t worn them in quite awhile

and really do love the elongating look and the way they balance out my hips…

Using the same color top creates a column of color that also helps to elongate my petite height.

I must add that I should have done pics at another location rather than in front of the puddle, but it’s become a habit where I stand, especially on a day like today that was cold and with my nasty sinus pressure headache….

I tried this look with a statement necklace ,

but didn’t like how it competed with the red-orange tipping in the sweater…

I love this sweater that I found over the summer at Burlington…

I highly recommend Burlington for quality sweaters at great prices..

I was quite happy with my changing up the silhouette of skinny jeans to these.

Hey, that’s twice this week with my boot leg cords…

I did wear skinny jeans for bowling yesterday,

but came home and had a headache and just never got pictures done..

Dear Readers, Changing silhouettes keeps me going and happier in styling outfits, this makes sense of a blogger who sees outfits as her artistic expression.  I use to do a lot of crafting to keep that element of expression in my life, but homeschooling makes that less possible.  I am very much looking forward to my daughter’s Spring Break at the end of February, as she is depending on me to help her create her dream Elsa costume for an Anime convention in Boston this Spring.  You wouldn’t believe the number of materials she’s explored and rejected… I think she is set with two patterns, because the top and this and the bottom of that didn’t suit her desires… I am so happy that she has this convention to look forward to as she really works so hard at school and is very focused , not great at creating the balance that I dream of for each of my children… I keep talking to her about tools for happiness and I think it’s starting to sink in… This parenting thing really doesn’t ever end, and I quite enjoy taking a back seat to feeling responsible and just offering advice to be taken or not… I feel so blessed to have one girl in my life and cherish every part of our journey together.

I am grateful that my daughter sent my youngest text pictures of the lake she walks by daily…(It’s so important to me that the older children keep in touch with their younger brother)

Here they are..

get-attachment (50)

She loved the ice and water mix that she saw on Tuesday,

she described it with wonder and awe as I was on the phone with her…

get-attachment (51)

This was taken on Thursday of the same lake after the snowfall…

For a girl born and raised in Virginia Beach, this is not something she takes for granted..

I am grateful that my daughter is in awe of nature and quite often refers to the beauty around her.

I am grateful for a call from my son, even if it was about missing mail, his voice made me happy despite my sinus pressure headache..

I am grateful for the Dr. Phil show today, talking about Mama’s boy, and the conversation with my 14 year old, wondering why any mother would want that for their son.  I am proud that he sees that I want to give them wings to fly!

I am grateful for my strength  in dealing with my son’s reluctance with homeschooling this week, he’s gonna be mad when he has to homeschool  this weekend, but gotta nip this in the bud!

As a woman who fully embraces her femininity,

I love wearing dresses and skirts for every day wear…

On this rainy Monday, I opted to spunk up my mood with a dress..

A super casual way to wear a dress…

A zippered hoodie and flat riding boots…

Perfect for this rainy but warmer day near 60F…

I would love to tell you where this jacket is from,

however it was a mail ordered Christmas gift and I have no idea..

My young photographer wasn’t happy until I smiled better and turned my head..

Here is a dressier way I wore this dress with Navy blazer and Navy suede boots.

I definitely felt more spunky in this version…

This casual version was something I never would have done before blogging…

I’d have stuck to wearing heels and not paired it with a zippered hoodie either.

It’s wonderful to be so much more versatile and adapt my love of skirts and dresses for

My Mom on the Go Lifestyle…

Dear Readers. Today was the first day back to homeschooling after out 3 week break to match his college siblings being home… Getting a teenager of 14 back into it is not easy… I knew that was going to happen and am very proud of how relaxed I was despite his stalling tactics for the day.. There is still residuals from his years in school with the reading, despite my success in solving his lack of phonetics and his new skills, he just hasn’t built up the stamina to read in courses like Biology (His IEP while in school stated that all subjects had to be read to him as he was a fantastic verbal learner)… The real problem has always been with writing,  so note taking is still a struggle.. He is getting much better and since the lessons are all videos, he only needs me as back up when taking quizzes or tests to ensure he read it correctly.  This is the first year, I’ve enforced note taking and our 3 week break while I was in Ireland set that back.  I am just taking it one day at a time and predict by mid February that he will be much more independent. I think taking responsibility for his own education is so important as I watched each of my older children get to that stage and delighted in their maturity.  I look forward to that stage for this child as well and can see that we have moved so much closer and am quite proud of what we’ve accomplished these past 3 1/2 years.

I am grateful that my daughter called me on her walk back from Boston College today, as I miss her already…(she just went back on Sunday)

I am grateful that my son discovered he left his running shoes here and we were able to overnight them to him before he had PT for his ROTC on Wednesday…

I am grateful that I took a walk in the light drizzle to the grocery store as the quiet house was getting to me.

I am grateful that my homeschooling son eventually accomplished his tasks for the day.

I am grateful that this morning we revamped his weekly schedule.

I am grateful that I accomplished a lot of straightening up around today around supervising homeschooling.

I am grateful my dear friend sent me a text with photos of the outfit she wore to church with items I gifted her for Christmas. (she’s a single mom, so I thrift and find bargains all year and give them to her for her birthday in May and Christmas, it brings me great joy!)

I am grateful that my other dear friend who is visiting family in CA texted me as well and I am looking forward to her return at the end of February…
