Versatile Style by Tracey

Archive for the ‘Date Night’ Category

This week is the final week of school for my seventeen year old and the last chance to have a quiet home to do the end of year tesing required for my homeschooling 13 year old… So, I need an easy dressing week and thought after My Lucky Finds post featuring several Striped pieces that I would start there… Oh and how about heading over to Refashion Runway for the first week challenge which was Stripes… I also felt very inspired by a post on 40 Plus Style on dresses and the week long dress challenge on You LOOk Fab forum last week.  So, I married those two inspirations together and will be featuring a week of Stripes in Dresses and Skirts!

So proud of myself for thinking of this way to make the week easier… Remember it’s Visible Monday, so go see the wonderful bloggers at Not Dead Yet Style!

I showed this dress once before on my vacation with the scarf part of the dress worn over my shoulders… this time I chose a strapless version…

This look definitely will be repeated for a concert at the beach night.. And later I’ll show it as a skirt…

And just for fun, I thought I showed the volume, that I love in dresses that swish when I walk and make my happiness factor soar… wondering if I can expand this with a jean jacket and boots to carry it over to colder seasons???

Dear Readers, Well this is just the first of my striped looks for the week, I hope you will come back and see what’s next.  Do you like stripes?  Do you wear them as dresses or skirts , prefer them in tops or both options???  I could start sounding like a Dr. Suess rhyme and say all the ways I like them, but will spare you my silliness.

I am grateful for my vacation trip in February  and my one fashion purchase of this dress…

I am grateful to my husband for teking these photos.

I am grateful to my son’s for ptiching in and putting their sweaters and sweatshirts in spacebags and getting them out of the way.

I am grateful for Sunshine and lazy Sundays!

I am grateful for leftovers and a night off from cooking.

As a petite size woman I feared a maxi, especially when I was overweight as I saw others doing that look and didn’ t like it. I must add that my hips were totally out of proportion when I gained weight and that you don’t necessarily have to be thin to rock a Maxi, it is more about proportion and being a petiite that created the issue for me.   So, being so close to goal weight, I thought it was time to give it a try again….

I never imagined that I would end up with what I refer to as a ‘Bubble gum or Barbie pink one…. But as a Dressing Your Truth Type One  it makes perfect sense…. Well it’s Visible Monday and Watch What I’m Wearing and My Greatest Hits,  so this color works!

I did not end up going for a second night at the beach.  Increasing my weight workouts from 8lbs to 15 pounds each and dancing Friday night really left my body aching.  I must say that doing Yoga stretches really does help and I highly recommend them after working out and again in the morning first thing….

Since I opted out of another beach concert, we switched our date night to a movie.  Not just any movie, but a Premier night of Internship with Vince Vauhn and Owen Wilson.  We didn’t know it was a Premier until security announced it and told us no recording devices and gave us papers telling us the consequences. They weren’t kidding they had security watching  the audience the entire time.  We did forget about them and enjoyed the movie immensley! Our favorite line was when one said to the other that he was a child of the 70’s and he grew up with out internet, sunblock or seatbelts, Then asked him what his seat belt was and he threw his arm out and said his mother’s arm.

My husband complimented me several times on the dress and the color, so I thought he was on board with me in a Maxi…. While in Walmart he saw a few other women in Maxi’s and turned to me and said, ” So, what’s with women and this Amish dress trend?”

Dear Readers, I am so happy I embraced my fear of Maxi’s and did so in such a big way with the color.  Do you have a fashion fear that you should address to see if it’s real?  Since one of my main blogging goals is to share my enthusiasm for fashion and playing in my closet, I hope to inpire you to DARE to Go Somehere New… That being said, I am neve r going to dare to wear CAMO…. Just never gonna happen!   Do you have a “Never Gonna Happen”  of your own??

In place of my usual Gratitude Section, today, I am going to put something I hope will insprie you and if you are a mother to use as a teaching tool.   I found this on Pinterest ….

I love this combo of grey and white for Spring Neutrals!  This is what I wore for date night with my husband and another couple:  Linking Up with Visible Monday and Watch What I am Wearing     and MyStyleMonday , so go check out  the other wonderful women on the web!

I took these photos around 6:00 pm and had some shadows I am not use to dealing with.. My seersucker jacket looks so wild in this photo.  My husband and I enjoyed a dinner out with friends at Macaroni Grill.   It was my first time there and I really enjoyed the entire experience.  The staff was relaxed and playful, the food was excellent and of course the company of our friends made it the best!  We ended our meal with the host coming to serenade our friend for her birthday.  After he sang in Italian,  our friend asked if he could sing something else, perhaps Voltaire.  He smiled and said he would love to sing us one of his all time favorites and before we knew it we were listening to “When You are Evil”   He did it with all the flair of a theater student and really made our night!

After dinner my friend and I headed to the restroom and as I exited the stall I noticed the door said MEN and asked “Why does our door say MEN?” .  When the girl in the stall between my friend and I chimed in with a deeper masculine voice that at first startled me making me think we really were in the Men’s room.. She said” that’s what I asked the last time I was here!”  Being my sassy self and having indulged in a glass of Chardonnay, I just had to know if the Men’s room said “Women’s” and my friend,  although  uncomfortable accompanied me and it does!   Someone has a great sense of humor!IMG_3326Notice my husband’s shadow?  I was happy to wear my sequined grey t-shirt that I had picked up at BJ’s while grocery shopping .   My husband once again kept complimenting the Franco Sarto silver heels.  I think he is happy to see me out of boots!  I really like this outfit because of the sparkle and texture!

Glad we had a fun night out because nothing like waiting until the last minute… We had a 10am meeting with our tax guy on Sunday..

Dear Readers, I hope you all had a wonderful weekend and that you were not like me, waiting until the last minute to file your taxes!I may have messed up my weight loss for the week, with my night out, will have to see what Weigh In Day Brings!

Gratitude:  I am grateful for a wonderful weekend with friends and family.  I am grateful the taxes came out fine and for our tax guy who comes to our house and makes it so easy! I am grateful for the laughter in my home and the sense of humor of all my sons!  I am grateful that my oldest son is doing so well and after struggling to find the right major is on his way!
