My Mother’s maiden name was Campbell and she was so

proud of her Scottish Heritage, in fact my youngest

brother carries the name Scott to honor her pride.

It was so fitting when she got strong enough after her heart attack to

take her life long dream trip to Scotland that my brother accompanied her.

Linking up with Classy Yet Trendy today

img_4520

My mother instilled the Campbell plaid love to me when I was young.

I loved the kilt skirt complete with the gold pin I had as a child in this plaid.

It meant a lot for me as a child knowing it was a part of my heritage.

img_4530

Can you believe I found this poncho when I was at AC Moore looking at craft stuff with my daughter.

It was just $14.99, so even though I didn’t need another poncho I couldn’t help myself.

Once again I am wearing the Halston lariat necklace (sold out) , it’s truly becoming a workhorse .

The green necklace is by Passage to Israel , found HERE .

img_4531

I need to do a better job of getting my hair away from ears.

I bought these from TJ maxx last year in both green and purple and have worn both a lot!

This was the beginning of me improving my earring collection,

something I neglected as I wore gold and silver hoops only for the longest time.

img_4524

My jeans are by Diane Gilman and are patched with silver sequins ,

are alas sold out,

It took me a long time to warm up to this type of “damaged” jeans ,

but this season the patched version came onto the scene making it more

comfortable for my style.

In this photo you can see the black and white plaid,

which I can reverse this to and it will have a tiny bit of this blackwatch plaid

just around the neckline.  I will be giving it a try at some point.

img_4525

I love these blue boots I bought two years ago when in Ireland,

they are perfect for adding to skinny jeans like this.

Dear Readers, this darn weather gave me a sever migraine on Monday,

leaving me with residual light sensitivity and nausea all day.

Apparently this was not just happening to me as a few Facebook friends had the same.

Gratitude

I am grateful that despite the residual side effects that I was pain free and the migraine was gone.

I am grateful that getting a new charger fixed my son’s laptop issue.

I am grateful that my daughter and son did a grocery store run for me today, as I wasn’t up for it.

I am grateful that I had the determination to fix spaghetti squash with bacon, Parmesan and mushrooms for dinner.

I am grateful for Fall weather arriving and the chance to start wearing some new items .

Yes, I really was teasing my teen photographer by

Singing in the Rain

as we did our Photo shoot on this grey Monday

DSC_2116

We not might like raining Mondays,

but the squirrels have been happily digging in the yard

and scurried up the tree as I came to pose here.

DSC_2124

I love this scarf with the navy and seafoam green coloring.

I can’t wait for winter to pair it with my new seafoam leather jacket.

I also like adding the tasel necklaces to infinity scarves as it

definitely has a slimiing effect with the addition of the vertical lines .

Just for fun , here is my Hallowwen Costume

And My “DEEP SEA SCOUNDREL”

IMG_20151102_101339

And my Daughter who is at Boston College and Spent the day

in Salem getting stopped numerous times to have her picture taken.

DSC_2127

I am loving this Susan Graver Cardigan I bought in both this Navy color

and in Chocolate Brown.

With the poly/spandex material, it really is working well for

my menopausal hot flashes..

In fact I originally styled this look of the day with a sheerling black vest,

but was too warm and had to forgo it.

Dear Readers, I must share with you that I made the commitment last week to run on the treadmill at least three days a week in a push to lose this darn menopausal weight gain before my anniversary in January. I succeeded and even did my last on on Sunday when my sinuses were acting up.  I hate caridio, but really need to get that into my routine and am loving that I am pushing myself and proud too.

Grateful

I am grateful for a fun weekend with our bowling friends!

I am grateful for our lazy Sunday, watching football.

I am grateful for my son setting his own homeschooling schedule today, opposite of our plan and still taking responsibility to get it all done.

I am grateful that my husnband is doing well and happy with his new job and away from toxic chaos.

I didn’t get my Spunky Fix when I wore my Skirted leggings last time

The flats just didn’t do it for me, yet they were appropriate for my day…

Over the weekend I decided to get my fix…

IMG_3334

I love this multi -media black and navy sweatshirt

I bought off season, last summer online from JCP.

The front is actually chunky yarn multi -color strands and

since this isn’t a very heavy sweatshirt, I can wear it through Spring

IMG_3335

My smiles today aren’t what they normally are…

The difference?

My son home from college took my pictures, giving my youngest a break…

I give what I think is a smile and my regular photographer notices

and acts silly or smiles to make me give a real one..

I never get the fake smile right  and he always does this…

I love that my youngest pays so close attention and take helping me seriously.

Not that I am upset with my other son, as we were doing this quickly and the camera was messing up…

IMG_3339

Every time I wear these boots I remember my Ireland trip, where I bought these

and donated the more round toed stumpy version that I had brought with me.

I also love this purse from Just Fab and have it in black and white as well.

Dear Readers, Speaking of Just Fab, that’s where I recently ordered my Bucket Bag as my one new purse for the Season.

I bought this perforated one in white, SEE It  Here

I really like my Just Fab monthly option to buy because you can opt out any month you wish.

It’s really allowed me to get some very on trend bags for not a huge price tag.

Gratitude

I am so grateful for the several days of fun watching my son’s college, VCU play basketball and go on to win the A10 championship today (Sunday).   I probably said this before but it truly was fun to find interest in a sport besides football.

I am grateful that I have been blessed as the mother of three sons as who knew I would so love being the mother of boys.. I am just as grateful for my one daughter and love that girly conversations…

I am grateful that I made the changes this past week to get back on track and lose this weight I put back on. I lost 3lbs !  If anyone wants to join my journey where I post recipes, exercises, motivational quotes or share any of those of your own, please join my Facebook Group , Here

Tomorrow is the WEARING of the GREEN Outfit  or  TWO

That blog title reference my Navy blue Hiking boots and Outfit

Not my frame of mind…

It’s a Wonderful Rare Snow Day!

IMG_3040

I loved getting a chance to wear my thrifted navy hiking boots that I dreamed of

and miraculously found in brand new condition at Salvation Army…

They aren’t just good for a trip to Ireland…

They Inspired me to go with a mostly blue outfit for the day...

IMG_3042

The dark outfit against the snow is exactly what I was aiming for!

A pair of skinny jeans, black cashmere sweater and navy cape are all for warmth

and what’s more fun than a cape?

IMG_3042

My hat is down a little more than I’d prefer…

I liked adding the navy and white scarf I found at F21 last year and the white necklace

as a nod to the snow background…

IMG_3044

I am very happy I scored the fun cape on clearance off season for just $9.99.

Dear Readers, It’s still late afternoon as I type this, but I know that the finish to my snow day is going to be a nice cup of hot chocolate with a nice shot of Ameretto… I haven’t done that at all this winter, which is unusual.. I guess my eating hasn’t been the best, so I didn’t further indulge as a way to maintain my weight.. I think I have that backwards and should do better during the day and indulge in an evening cup of relaxation ….A new plan for the rest of the month???

What’s your ultimate winter indulgence???

Gratitude

I am grateful for the fun of a snow day and a day of from homeschooling where I got to be the Fun Mom, instead of the pain in his neck teacher!

I am grateful for the sharing and connection all around with everyone’s excitement over the snow.

I am grateful that my husband didn’t have to work today, so he could hang out with our son and have some good bonding time, cause this mom isn’t much for playing in the snow….

Today, I went for a very casual look..

It all began with the Aeropostale aztec print sweatshirt…

I bought it on clearance so no longer available..

IMG_2160

I simply added a white tshirt, black skinny jeans and

my chambray boots from Ireland…

I would have preferred a more tight tshirt underneath this ,but this is what I have..

IMG_2157

This is my wonderful houndstooth coat , bought last year from Burlington..

Another wet cold day today… but hey three days in a row with no sunglasses is a treat..

IMG_2165

I am going to move the Merry Chirstmas sign closer so it’s in my pics for the Season…

IMG_2159

Our morning started off with a neighbor ringing the door knob at 8:30 am….

He had two bags of ornaments similar to the ones on our tree that he’d found in his yard that morning…

They aren’t ours.. so my husband asked around to other neighbors and no one claimed them…

Dear Readers, I ate much better today and craved no carbs or sugar!  Now if only I can keep this up..I swear I am so out of whack for a few reasons… One is just the time of year, and it’s been colder than normal.  I think another thing is missing my mother like crazy… I think the five year mark combined with the Ireland trip and seeing the huge welcoming family greatly increased my sense of loss.  If that wasn’t enough this time of life with menopause approaching wreaks havoc, I went months without a cycle that decided to come back in October while on the Ireland trip… I can make excuses or I can stand strong in my resolve to not let his current weight gain remain or get even more out of control.. So, yesterday, I ordered a Fit Bit to keep me accountable for moving more and of my sleeping patterns.. The sleeping has really been an issue lately… I sleep for 4 hours and am then wide awake… Not one to function on such little sleep, I take a few hours to go back to sleep and usually get another 3 hours.. This means waking up at around 10:30 am… I don’t like that ,but it is what it is… Perhaps exercising more and getting rid of carbs and sugar may put that back in order..

Are any of you, my dear readers dealing with weight gain or problems sleeping in this stage of life? Anyone dealt with this and found solutions?  Would love some words of wisdom?

Gratitude

I am grateful that my son finally finished his homeschooling after stalling all day..

I am grateful that my daughter got snow at Boston College before she comes home for the holiday.

I am grateful for fast wonderful protein rich dishes we picked up at BJ’s…

I am grateful that I’ve managed to get a few items for each child that they don’t know about for Christmas..

I love wearing black and blue together…

I also  love adding Pattern into outfits…

Pattern Pants are always a winner in my book!

IMG_1305

These are my newest pants bought from HSN by  Diane Gilman,

fortunately for me, they were just $19.99 on clearance, but now aren’t available.

IMG_1325

I wore this without the sweater until it got cooler in the early evening .

I’ve worn this top before and love the sheer bottom that floats and moves ,

feels almost like a skirt…

I love tunics and skinny or straight pants, however once my tall boots come out I tend to wear them less

, as the proportions for my petite height don’t work.

If  you’ve never photographed outfits, I highly recommend it because your mirror is a liar,

which is how I discovered the best proportions.

I cringe to think how wrong I was dressing for my petite height prior to blogging…

IMG_1327

I doubled up my necklaces and added hoop earrings and a headband for a lite boho vibe…

IMG_1319

Notice the black tipping on my sweater…

It’s one I ‘ve had for a few years and keep thinking about getting rid of, but haven’t and I’m glad of that.

My Aerosoles mules continue to be a favorite.

Dear Readers. I am now in single digits on my countdown to Ireland. I can’t believe that the year long wait is almost over. I hope you haven’t tired of my year long anticipation and excitement.  I’m probably more excited than I was at first since we added in staying in 4 castles and a night in New York.  I have a lot to do before leaving to get the house ready for my oldest to come back home and stay with my youngest and for the animals to all have food and their needs met.  And if that wasn’t enough the 5 year light bulbs have all gone out and I need to go get more and change them all out..Wonder what else will pop up?   I look forward to the days of no kids and no pets to worry about, then again it will be here all too soon…

Gratitude

I am grateful that my oldest is getting a wonderful surprise, which arrived today,  for his birthday next week..

I am grateful that my 18 year is coming home for the birthday and I’ll get to see him before we go…

I am grateful that my youngest  son did the chores I assigned today without making me ask twice.

I am grateful that the scale moved and I finally lost 2.5 lbs…hope that trend continues.

I also hope my new found love of late night walks continues.

I am grateful that my nightly walks offer the added benefit of better sleeping ( a real issue in my world)

I am grateful that my husband  sent the tablet he won to our daughter who really wanted one for school.

I am grateful that my dress for Ireland came today and IT FITS!

What’s a blogger to do when she is under the weather, but really wants to get dressed and take blog photos?

Well, she turns to Pinterest to peruse her boards of outfits that she would like to copy….

LOLO Moda: Women's dresses 2013

As a woman who lives in the south, we all have an inner cowgirl… Well, maybe not all of us, especially here in Virginia Beach which is a true melting pot area,  as we are surrounded by military bases.  Of course that brings so many transplants from all over… In fact both my parents are from the north, Pennsylvania.  The Navy brought my father here and my mother came here on vacation with girlfriends and fell in love!  I love my mother so much for understanding my spunky personality and my love of boots…  I was truly blessed… I had a pair I loved when at 25 I met and married a Boston northern snob… He didn’t like that side of me too much and I let her go for awhile, never replacing those much loved boots after I wore them out… Something happens to women in their fourties and they really embrace themselves, hence my return to cowboy style boots… And the best part is my dear husband sees how sassy and happy they make me feel and has learned to embrace  them!!!!

IMG_3298

Such fun and an outfit I would love to wear to a fun music festival, but for today, it helped me to feel a little spunky when my sinuses are trying to drain my energy…

IMG_3293

I small floral print and a boyfriend navy sweater with black tipping..

IMG_3299At 48, I feel time running out on my chance to wear outfits like this, so going to embrace it for now!  Some may feel this is already to young of a look for me, but I dress to fit my spirit, not the chronological age…

Dear Readers, this was a fun adventure and really did help me feel better today.. A cure for a fashionista, play in you closet and ignore that sinus pressure and headache… Sure beats sitting on the couch and pouting, wishing this sinus stuff would pass by quicker…

Gratitude

I am grateful for Pinterest and the fun it brings to my oufit styling.

I am grateful for the fun memory of my mother indulging my cowgirl.

I am grateful for National Geographic channel and the Brain Games show I had on  DVR that three of my children are now watching together… With kids aged 13 to 22 a rare moment together…

I am grateful for a beautiful sunny day, as sunlight is a mood booster!

I am grateful for the love and supporting family that I’ve built and the knowledge that my children really like each other!  (a mother’s dream)

I am so grateful for my 18 year old son ( I am so going to miss him when he goes off to college next year) as he told me today, that when I turn 80 I can wear anything I want again, so not to worry...He then went on to say that he woud even proudly escort me and point out that I was old and allowed to do anything…

Saturday was a very busy day beginning with lunch with friends,  followed by a wue tasting and dinner with  my husband’s  new boss and  his wife.

Prior to heading out ,I posed for photos in high winds and was freezing, imagining  and feeling compassion for what real models go through….

Don’t forget It’s Visible Monday, so go check out some other wonderful bloggers!

IMG_2983

I went for the three layered look again this time beginning with a blue t-shirt followed by a Leopard Ann Taylor cardigan.   The loepard has grey’s , black and a touch of blue .  Three layers was not enough for a trip to Waterman’s at the oceanfront , so I topped this off with my puffer coat!!!!

IMG_2986

This was my quickest photo shoot to date with winds whipping at 25 miles per hour…

I wore the lace fedora the entire day,  inside and out, which made it easy for my husband to spot me in the crowd of wine tasters!   We are both tolerate wine and love the tasting process, but both agreed that none that we tried would have sparked us to buy a bottle…. I can honeslty say that I know that more expensive wines appeal more to me ,but that was not present of course for the masses at this event at our convention center.   It was a fantastic way to spend an afternoon and early evening on a cold January day!!! It was a great fun way to hang out with new people when I think 3 of us are more introverted (my husband is not at all!)

IMG_2990

For you my regular readers, this is my signarture sassy pose ,but not today!  This was an “I”m freezing, but have to do it”  pose….

I tried the 3 layer look for the first time last week or so Here  and liked it so much I was inspired to do this again today..I know those who live in colder temps probably think this is a no brainer and  have been doing so for years… but alas I am expereincing colder temperatures that I can ever recall …. even if we get cold days it doesn’t stick around… Remmeber we had highs in the mid 60’s then got 5 inches of snow in the same day!  I like that alll threee levels are seen and not hidden secrets in this formula and will definitely continue this in my rotation,

Gratitude

I am so grateful for a fun lunch with friends that began as a trio and turned into both my husband and a friend’s mother joining us- the more the merrier!

I am so grateful for my dearest freind and sharing her joy as her live moves in a positive direction after years of  stress.

I am so grateful for this friend who reminds me to be grateful!

I am grateful that my husband is working for such great people who are so excited to have him on board!

I am grateful for weekends and time together as  husband and wife and as a family!

I am grateful that my husbands schedule allows for more weekend time with us!!!

The goal for today was to find an outfit that was casual to go out and celebrate a freind’s birthday, while layering to keep myself warm , as I don’t like being cold….Hence the reason I love boots for this season…

Debuting my newest boots….

IMG_2842

I’ve has so much luck with my tan boots of this height for tucking in my skinny’s that I thought a darker color option was needed.

IMG_2852

It’s so nice to have hit my comfort zone and now not even think twice about wearing double stripes, one in black and one in navy… With touches of black in my boots and my hat, it brings them all together.

I am loving the new Navy moto and this striped scarf and keep finding new ways to wear them..

IMG_2856

I love the chunky heels of these boots and that they are all rubber for comfort.  Much better than the lower booties/shooties I wore a lot last season…This is much more practical for my “Mom on the Go” lifestyle.

I just heard(in my head) the old line ” Lucy you’ve got some ‘splaining to do!”  as I had told my dear husband I was done buying boots for this season.  I know he likes the other more feminine version, but he finally warmed up to my tan ones, so there is some hope…

Dear Readers, do you ever find yourself replacing an item that you had for one season for something more practical and comfortable???  Is it shoes or some other category if you have done this??

Did I sufficeintly score in going casual as I always seem to over dress when going out with these friends and have nearly given up as I am just being me??

PS. I layered fleece lined leggings underneath my jeggings!

Gratitude

I am grateful that I found these boots for a bargain price!

I am grateful that my husband understands my fashion love and humors me.

I am grateful that the weather is getting warmer and for the ability to wear two layers of socks, I hate cold feet!

I am grateful that my husband was able to go out tonight on a weeknight, a perk to his promotion!

I am grateful that we were able to spend time with our dear friend on his birthday!

I am grateful for this best friend of my husband’s , a bond that helps to ease the pain of his brother’s passing.

Not really thrilled about today’s look, but don’t hate it either… It’s just so-so and since I am just representing the real life version of me, not pretending to be a Fashion Guru or Model,,, Without further ado, here it is:

IMG_0246Perhaps I am just having Monday -itis.   I define that as: Having a good weekend and regreting the beginining of a new week.  Or perhaps it’s the grey gloom of the cloudy day?… or how about that lovely PMS visiting again?, not enough?, how about knowing with PMS that I am going to step on the scale for tomorrow’s WW meeting angod have a gain when I am so ready to just lose the final pounds?  Ok, GOT  THAT OUT OF MY SYSTEM!

IMG_0247

This is a close-up of my necklace.   My husband purchased this as a gift for me from Busch Gardens.  I loved watching the artist at work blowing the glass and explaining her craft.  This remeinds me of  Van Gogh’s Starry Night.

IMG_0250

I love  casual skirts and tops for Mom on the Go looks.  I wore this skirt once before when we had a weird warm front in January , so here is that look:

IMG_1876

Don’t know how visible the difference is in pics, but when I wore this the first time it was too tight not to wear a shirt over my stomach, this time the skirt was actually loose and I’m PMS-ing right now!  There is a good difference in person, I wish was more visible so you could understand my excitement.  I may not have lost weight but I lost inches from the strength training!

Dear Readers, Thanks for tolerating my whine today!  At least tomorrow for weigh in day, I’ll wear a dress and have my pep back in my step!  Do cloudy or rainy days ever affect your moods?  I seem to be very in tune with nature that way…

Again, in place of Gratitude today, I am posting from my Pinterest Board and hope you find it helpful . Something you don’t know about me is that I have a secret desire to grow up and become a Laughter Yoga Instructor.  Seriously, I have read a lot about it and dream of it often!
