Dressed for Bowling…

My Dear Readers , I committed to a week of Dresses and Skirts,
and when today came along, I wanted to wear my purple snow boots
and decided to give up the idea of a dress for bowling day…
Our snow from yesterday melted away as the day went on…
It will be replenished tonight as another storm heads our way with up to 8 inches…
Which I know is laughable to northerners, but even with just two inches yesterday we had hundreds of accidents and people going off the road. We even had one that hit a local school bus full of kids yesterday afternoon…
So, styling this outfit from the ground up,
I knew wanted the purple poncho and thought patterned pants would be fun.
The yellow sweater is a thrifted lambswool and angora, so soft and warm!
I really love the purple and yellow color combo…
I have a pair of subdued purple animal print jeans that I’d love to pair with this combo in the future
In this outfit, I definitely didn’t feel the same sassy and spunky vibe
that my dresses have given me this week…
I did however feel much more comfortable bowling in pants…
This poncho if from Old Navy and one I thrifted,
I like the shorter length of this for easy styling with my petite height.
Gratitude
I am grateful that my son bowled his highest came to date today.
I am grateful to the parent who told the bowling alley so they could announce it over the loudspeaker, as he felt so proud and happy.
I am grateful that my son found something he likes and is willing to work hard to get better, this is a first for this child!
I am grateful that the guys went outside and a snowball fight after bowling ( it’s moments like that , when I notice the loss of his brother away at college)
I am grateful that my son so willingly and with a positive attitude interrupted his xbox live game to take my blog photos, (he is normally agreeable, but this felt special)
I am grateful for an hour long phone call from my daughter and the joy it brings, as well as the tears it brings, as I remember my mother and miss her dearly.
A Day Of Rememberance

Today I was feeling very sentimental since it is the day my father passed on…
Of course that was 36 years ago and has long since been a day to honor his memory,
not to be sad or mourn him.
With the sadness that always arises for me at the end of football season…
I chose to honor him by wearing a Steelers outfit…
I feel like football is one lasting tie to him that I forever cherish..
With age comes a new perspective and I am truly amazed at his patience with
answering all my questions during game time….
I look at my youngest who is fourteen and imagine myself at 13 when he died…
I can’t imagine that for my children and am glad they haven’t had that in their childhood journey…
In this moment my young photographer was joking me
about not wearing a jacket for the photo shoot so he could show off his Patriots shirt…
That saddened me for a split second as I pictured him with my father…
The hardest part of having a father who died when I was a child is not sharing my children with hjm…
I have no doubt he sees this part of my life and is proud….
I sat down thinking I can’t write about this today… I am pleased that I didn’t even attempt to do my father justice and describe him, as I know that my words would not have at all been satisfactory. I prefer to cherish him in my heart than to fully try to explain him to the world….
I will share a wonderful story about my youngest….From the moment he could speak he spoke of remembering being in Heaven and has offered some incredible stories.
A few months after my mother passed the electricity went out and my husband was outside getting the generator going, while the rest of us gathered all the candles in the den and put them on the round end table and lit them.. As soon as my youngest who was 9 at the time, saw them, he lit up and said, “Can you all leave me alone, I want to go visit Mama?” When he saw me look at him with surprise, he reassured me with , “Don’t worry, Mom, part of me is going to stay here.” The rest of the family obliged and moved to the kitchen to work on moving out the refrigerator and getting together extension cords…We completed the task and were pushing the frig back into place when I felt the arms of my youngest go around my waist squeezing me tight with all the strength he could muster… Nothing could have shocked and delighted me more than what he said in that moment…”Mom, I saw your father and now I know why , you are who you are!” He couldn’t have been more right and I will forever cherish this special child and that amazing moment! I may have shared this story before, but have no qualms repeating it…
Sporty Luxe for Play off Season

Yesterday was the beginning of Football Play-offs
and sadly the final game of the season for my
beloved Pittsburgh Steelers..
I loved the Sporty Luxe trend for Spring and Summer,
yet hadn’t really attempted this style in the cooler seasons…
So, with that purpose in mind I put this look together, beginning with F21 jogger pants..
Not much luxe there, so I added a thrifted lambs wool and angora yellow sweater,
along with a thrifted DKNY Active vest
I added my new Steelers Scarf to support my team and add a literal sporty touch..
Since it rained most of Saturday, I topped the outfit off with my Rachel Zoe trench via QVC (no longer available)
I completed the look with what I jokingly refer to as my Beatles booties.. the flat strappy version is a great addition to my Mom on the Go lifestyle… These are by Aeropostle picked up off season…
Dear Readers, I was sad at the team loss last night, but as a true lover of the sport am looking forward to the remaining play off games and the Superbowl… It’s less stress when your favorite team is out.. Lol… I often joke that football is not good for your blood pressure..
Gratitude
I am grateful that I had the privilege of playing Santa for my friend yesterday (she is returning from Canada today and her daughter wanted Santa to come to their home ,to have something to come home to…I had to wait until the day before in hopes that their cat doesn’t wreak too much havoc)
I am grateful that my daughter and son opted to accompany me in playing Santa and the fun we had with it..
I am grateful that we opted for deli meats and cheeses for dinner last night, so no cooking before game time!
I am grateful for the humor my Nicholas brings to every situation even my team losing…
I am grateful for a good night’s sleep..

With a Rivalry game this past weekend, I decided to get into the Spirit….
Glad I took these photos since today (Monday) I am dealing with my first sinus issues of the Season…
A fever and sore throat…
Bring on the Airborne!
Which does work wonders by the way,..
I had to laugh when in the grocery store, I came across another female fan decked out in a fabulous leather Steelers Jacket…
We were admiring each other’s outfits when she blurted out…”Gold pants, gotta get some of those!”
This top was found in September at Old Navy, which lately seems to be a good place for pants perfect for my Mom on the Go lifestyle… I think my current favorites are all from there…not these Liz Claiborne gold jeans though…
The hobo bag is new from Gili via QVC Here, sold out in all but two colors as it was a special value last week…
I even wore the Steelers earrings my kids picked up for me last year….
I don’t dress up in spirit gear every week.. but when it’s the rivalry game in your division the pressure is on…
So glad it ended in Steeler favor cause I really don’t like the Ravens… Like every game between these two, the guys went off the charts and were brawling… seemed more like a hockey game than football at one point….
Dear Readers, I am counting down the days until Thanksgving when my daughter comes home… She is doing well in graduate school, but like all my children has the strongest love language of quality time and really needs a home visit…(Here’s a test for teens to find out your own child’s love language) So glad that my daughter has this home visit coming soon… She is a child who loves the comfort of traditions and isn’t fond of change…. Her newest complaint … that retailers are ruining Black Friday ( a venture she loves) because they are opening and having specials all day on Thanksgiving Day… Her outrage is that somethings should remain sacred and Thankgiving Day for family is going to get hijacked… Of course, that is up to us as individuals to determine for ourselves… WE will be opting out and going at our usual 5 to 6 am on Black Friday…
So chime in Dear Readers, What do you think about retailers doing specials on Thanksgiving Day? Will you be going?
Just for Fun, Here’s a Video my youngest shared with me and requested I share with you, My Dear Reades. It is good for a laugh by any Disney Movie Fan…

Gratitude
I am grateful that my children are all doing well and are healthy.
I am grateful that my children are all connected and text each other.
I am grateful that my sinus issues today, never ventured to a pressure headache.
I am grateful that I was able to go back to sleep after my initial wake up at 4:45 am, especially since the football game went late…
I am grateful that despite being under the weather, I still found the energy to unpack winter clothes and all my boots

If you had told me a year ago, that I’d be sporting tennis shoes and dresses,
I probably would have laughed….
Now I can’t seem to get enough of it…
I love this Calvin Klein striped dress and haven’t worn it lately..
Today is was calling my name, but the events of the day called for casual…
The solution was easy add my floral Keds…
For good measure add a Steelers color summer shrug and baseball cap,
and don’t forget the yellow watch, seen better in first and next photo..
We had a very sunny 80 degree day…
This photo turned out pretty orange,…
And to finish it off , wear my beloved Christmas present…
My Ying/Yang Necklace -they are still selling it at my BJ’s…
I love the irony of wearing my necklace when my outfit styling is of opposite juxtapositions .
like the femininity of the dress and the sporty shoes and ball cap…
Dear Readers, I love that blogging challenges me to try new trends out that perhaps I might not do on my own…
It’s that reason and my loyal readers that keep my posting despite my blog not having a huge viewership…
I hope that when I take my three week break for Ireland that you will come back to see my photos!
If possible I may try to post a few times while in Ireland…
Gratitude
I am grateful that my husband had another easy day with appointments only in the evening…
I am grateful that he used his time wisely today and replaced our defunct turtle tank filter
I am grateful that I was able to complete the homeschooling lessons of the day despite the interruptions of my husband being home .
I am grateful that a trip for groceries was on the agenda for the day and that we got a lot of healthy options. (its nice having my husband eating healthy as sometimes he can be a saboteur)
I am grateful that both my daughter and my son called me today from colleges to touch base .
I am grateful that my die hard Patriots fan husband supports my Steelers love and provides me with items like this hat…

This weekend was an Emotional One…
We dropped our Son off at Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond
This letting go stuff is hard and I have been fighting back the tears ever since I gave him that goodbye hug…
Seeing his bag of Candy on the counter, looking in the cabinet and see the taco seasoning (he always asked me to make them, watching my youngest hurting, watching my husband in that moment when he saw something on tv and started to get up to share it with his son…..It’s going to take some getting use to…
My smile wasn’t quite right today…but my shirt looks great with my hair color….
I wish the punches to my gut were done…. but alas we will be heading to Boston September 1st to drop our daughter for graduate school.
One would be manageable two and with her going farther away out of state ,is a bit much for this loving mom to manage..
Manage I must because what choice do I have?
Isn’t this what I’ve been working all these years for to give them wings and let them fly?
It’s not like I am done, I still have my fourteen year old to homeschool through high school.
A daunting task as I really have to play hardball and get him writing this year!
I love these cropped pants by Jag Jeans I purchased from 6pm.com early this season…I didn’t wear them yet, as I have to wear heels or wedges with cropped pants to get the right proportions and with my broken toe meant flats…I bought them in Navy and Bright Pink, so hopefully I’ll wear those before the Season is over….
Dear Readers, I am going to be fine with these changes in my family, but it doesn’t mean I won’t have set backs here and there. I’ll do my best to keep myself busy and moving and with homeschooling and getting ready for Ireland in October, that part will be easy… I am also moving into weight loss mode to combat this 8lb weight gain! No way I am going to Ireland with that!
Besides I have a birthday coming up in early September… Can you believe it! I’ll be 49!
I ordered this neat kitchen appliance
To make Omelettes to help keep me on track!
I love this because I actually like my eggs cooked and usally flip the omelet to cook both sides before adding veggies..The bad part about that is that I use a plate to do the flip and quite often the edge of the hot pan will touch my arm.. Not every time, but too often…
Gratitude
I am grateful that we had a fun family day setting up our son’s dorm room, and hanging up pictures , not leaving until it was perfect
I am grateful that my daughter opted to take off work to be there for her brother
I am grateful my youngest was exhausted and fell right to sleep, his first night sleeping alone as he shared a room with his brother
I am grateful that my son texted me a few times today and is doing well
I am grateful that we had a very busy day, picking up a desk for our daughter , as she gets ready for her first unfurnished apartment and running other errands, finishing our day with a movie night…
I am grateful that my niece will be here this next week , which will be good for my youngest and me!

Today’s look from the Get Your Pretty On
Summer Style Me Challenge
was all about pattern bottoms and bright tops…
I thrifted this fabulous graphic print skirt by Jones New York , Sport last year and have worn it quite often..
I have to say this outfit is using my favorite Summer formula,
a skirt, tank top, topper and sandals…
I love the texture of this yellow topper, which I’ve had for two season’s now and own in three colors.
While my exact one is no longer available, this Slinky brand via HSN,
has a similar version this season
You can find it here in 5 colors and it comes in plus size as well…
Here is yet another version…. this comes in different more vibrant colors and is also available in regular and plus.
Slinky brand has several other jacket options that can be found here and some are even clearanced priced..
I really am loving these Payless Sandals (looks like they are sold out) and can’t believe how many times I’ve worn them so far…
Will be doing more so with this broken toe…
I do have to say I am missing my wedges that are a huge part of this season’s style…
Dear readers, I love wearing skirts for Summer, just wish I had begun my fake tanning earlier..
I skipped a day and applied it today, but not much results showing here on camera, but in person I see a difference..
It is a gradual process with the Jergens Daily firming moisturizer….
Do you fake tan????
Gratitude
I am grateful that my son took me to Walmart tonight to pick up a new SD card reader as my old one wasn’t working..
I am grateful that my youngest unloaded the dishwasher and loaded it back up this morning (he unloads all the time, but has refused to reload not wanting to touch dirty dishes.. but this morning I had levearage as he wanted a one day only $8 game special)
I am grateful that my daugher surprised me and without my asking cleaned the bathroom! (I guess having a broken toe has it’s advantages)
I am grateful that the kids all took a run to the grocery store and picked out individual dinner items releaving me from cooking duty…
I am grateful for kind hearted, giving , compassionate children and the wonderful daily conversations regarding , current events, politics, their lives or situations with friends, etc…
I am grateful that I can see my relationships with my adult children evolving into wonderful freindships..(something I cherished with my own mother and miss terribly!)

I really am enjoying this Summer Style Me Pretty Challenge..
Why you ask??? Well having an e-mail every night that gives you an outfit suggestion relieves a fashion blogger from the hard work of choosing an outfit and actually frees up some valuable time…
After all this is my Summer of Memory Making before
my son heads off to VCU and my daughter heads off to grad school at BC!
Time is precious these days...
I hope you don’t get sick of me saying this…
Linking Up with Tres Chic Thursday….
I began this day wearing khaki linen capris, but while picking up the house, I dropped a cup that had rootbeer in it an splashed it all over the back of my legs…
Good thing I had a khaki skirt…. funny thing about this skirt it is by Chaus and I had one in my preweight loss size…
I missed it so much that I stalked Ebay and when a size 6 showed up I bought it right away!
Like my new Sunglasses?
My son received these by Knockaround in his Gradfest gift bag.
It was fun to wear the same purse two days in a row!
I only bought a few things for this Challenge and these metallic sandals from Payless was the first purchase…
And they work perfectly for my broken toe…
I love that you don’t even notice my taped toe due to the nude colored first aid tape they have these days!
I added the hat for extra protection on this hot day that got to 104 with the heat index!
I like the way the hat bookends the tan skirt…
This utility vest is one I thrifted and if you know my blog, I love a vest over a tank top, but I also like the added vertical lines of the open vest against the horizontal stripes to break them up and produce a more slimming look…
Dear Readers, have you ever used Ebay to find an item that you loved and wanted another one, or needed a different size for?
I think it’s a wonderful use of Ebay…
In case you haven’t heard: Payless has all sandals on sale, plus a BOGO offer and an additional 10% off on their website.
I feel I should also mention I wasn’t in the mood for Weight Management Wednesday as I struggle to find ways to keep the momentum of exercize going with a broken toe… The fantastic planking and plank jacks that were making marvelous work on my abs has to be suspended as I can’t get on my toes…. doing other ab work , but none as effective….I can’t even do the ones I love from Melt it off with Mitch….
Gratitude
I am grateful the homeschool bowling was cancelled as I would have been tempted to bowl ,
not a good idea with my broken toe…
I am grateful that I made pasta salad yesterday and had left overs today!
Who wants to cook in this heat?
I am grateful that I joined a homeschool group on Facebook and followed a recommendation for
and ordered a Science Program to do over the Summer for my upcoming 9th grader!
I am grateful that applying the Jergens tanning lotion with the cotton quitled disposable ovals from the dollar store, seemed to have worked to give a very even tan with no extras around the ankles, knees, elbows or the hands…
(Didn’t reapply today, but will tomorrow and will keep you posted)
Sporty Skirt Outfit

One of the most fun trends for this season is the Sporty trend.
Another is wearing unexpected combinations of shoes with dresses or skirts, like booties, Birkenstocks or tennis shoes…
This is a very fun trend that I fully embrace…
I could change out these shoes for the other options I mentioned above for a totally different look…If I had more time today, I would have styled it with three shoe options for fun , but alas:
Today was about decorating the front porch to surprise our graduate when he came home from his last day of school and his graduation practice… so tennis shoes were perfect!
These grey Puma’s are a purchase I made to take to Ireland in October and I found them
HERE
Next time I would wear this with completely no show sock or go sockless….
My rhinestone decorated shoulder t-shirt was found at BJ’s and orginally for my 22 year old daugher, but it was too long for her, so I kept it as I like tying tees that are longer…
I also want to point out that sylist extraoidinare Angie from You Look Fab once suggested that I leave off earrings when wearing a hat and glasses and after first cringing at the thought of it, I have since come to agree with her suggestion…Since I wear hats a lot this was an important discovery and change to my style.
Angie wrote a wonderful post on the Sporty Luxe trend yesterday!
It’s so interesting to see how the sports trend can go casual for a Mom on the Go like myself and go Luxe and be more appropriate for other life experiences…
It was a breezy day!!!!!
I thrifted this skirt last year….
I purchased this necklace chain and pendant piece from Michael’s craft store.
They have a great ever changing selection of the pendant pieces and if you are a bargain shopper, you can always use a 40% off coupon that you can print offline for an even better deal…
The chain is sliver plated and was $11.99 and the pendant was $8.99
My fourteen year old photographer can’t help himself and too photos of our neighbors dog who watches us with interest but never barks at us… you’ve gotta love that in a dog!
Gratitude
I am grateful that my son finished his last day of high school and now Summer really begins!
I am so grateful for the wisdom of my 18 year old son and the wonderful choices he makes for himself!
I am grateful for a weekend to celebrate our amazning young man and how we all come together as a family.
I am grateful for the possiblity of a miracle in my friends life and for her strength in facing the impossible, with compassion, strength , intelligence and faith.
I am grateful that his 3 siblings all pitched in to decorate the front porch for our graduate , how cool that our son who moved out was here to join in!

It is really hard to face a week where the weather promises clouds and rain almost daily….
As a Fashion Blogger you take solice by playing in your closet...
With cooler temps I was able to wear my green paisley embossed cords and add fun elements to lift my spirits despite the cooler temps and grey skies…
I love tops that offer this waist definition and creation of a fun pemplum look. This thrifted blouse is light so the peplum offers movement when I walk similar to the swinging skirts I love…A great feminine touch in an otherwise simple Mom on the Go style…
What’s more fun than a lace fedora for a woman who loves a boho vibe?
Yellow ballet flats with great cutwork and a yellow bag is all that’s needed to finish accessorizing this look…
Oh wait, no self respecting bohemian woman forgets hoop earrings…
Dear Readers, I face dreadful Mondays with fun elements in my outfits that make me feel Sassy, What are some ways you face the beginning of a not so great week????
Gratitude
I am grateful my son brought home his cap and gown and did a fashion show for me today, (Gotta say he looked young and not like the young man heading off to pre-med…)
I am grateful that my daughter again helped my son with math homeschooling this afternoon, giving me a break.
I am grateful that my hard work of eating high protein last week worked well and I lost 4lbs…, 4 more to go…
I am grateful for the week of rain for it’s cleansing abiltiy and relfef from high pollen levels
