If you had asked me If’ I’d Ever Wear

Over the Knee Boots  a few year Ago,

I’d have answered with a Emphatic Negative Response.

That’s Why One Should Never , Say Never!

I stand by my initial reaction to the idea of over the knee boots because

years ago, they didn’t come in this riding boot style, but were more the hooker heeled versions.

This is a tale of being willing to give things a try, because even this flat version didn’t appeal to me, out of fear that it wouldn’t work for my 5 feet 3 inch height challenge.

I do think these work for a few reasons.

The first would be that I am blessed as a petite woman to have

my mother’s  Campbell family genetic long legs.

I may be petite , but I can never wear petite length pants.

The other reason these work for me is that they barely come to the top of my knee.

Their are varieties I’ve seen that are not just over the knee, but thigh highs.

Dabbling in this boot style, I opted for this pair from Chinese Laundry

I loved the opportunity, to wear my orange hoop earrings that my daugter gave me.

I also love any chance to wear Orange lipstick.

I had to take the opporunity to dress like Fall today

because our temperatures were in the low 70’s now, but

going back up to 80 tomorrow.

Dear Readers, Have you tried something you didn’t think would work for you and

were pleaseantly surprised?

Gratitude

I am grateful that my husband had a successful day today and some fun along the way.

I am grateful that I trusted my instincts on my walk to the grocery store. I heard a woman on the phone almost in tears saying she was giving in and just wanted to go knock on her father’s door and admit she need help because she couldn’t take another night in the shelter.  She went on to say she needed help with bus fare but no one was willing to help her.  I walked past her into the store, took out $3 and walked outside and handed it to her. She gasped into the phone and said , “OH My, someone just gave me the bus fare, I can do it now!” I was walking away as she was proclaiming , “Bless You, Thank you so much”  One  wonders if the truth is being told in these circumstances , but when I came out of the store she was gone and I saw her at the BLVD  bus stop, I was glad I trusted my instincts.

I am grateful that my college son who texts me a lot , actually called to talk to me tonight. He is troubled about the college shooting and asking the same question my oldest asked, ” What if you answered that you were Spiritual not Religious? ” How would the shooter have reacted?  I know so many college students have to be wondering what would have happened if they had been in that room.  so sad!

Since, Today is officially the first day of Winter, I thought it was time for my faux fur vest to come out and play…  I was feeling very blue today, which I think is related to the Connecticut tragedy and the loss of my son’s school mate to brain cancer.  So  I  paired my vest with my Chambray shirt and jeggings.

When taking the photos, even my seventeen year old noticed my mood… I don’t like that at all… I am also having PMS and think this is part of it as well…The sun wasn’t shining today either.  Yesterday my son ran back in to get his shades because it was so bright now no sun and tomorrow we are expecting rain. I remember the short seven months I lived in Massachusetts during the winter months and how much I missed the sun shining.  So glad my husband moved me back to Virginia.

I really like how comfortable I am in this.  I have been wearing my shooties with heels a lot lately and really liked walking around in these flats.  Too bad I am finished with all the hustle and bustle and shopping because this would have made a great Mom on the Go look.

Time to turn on some music and get into a better frame of mind.  Might have to remove these boots as the rubber soles won’t be good for dancing!  Even writing about music and dancing already lifted my spirit!

What do you do to take care of yourself on days you feel a little off? Dear readers, your comments are welcomed and much appreciated.

Gratitude:  I am so glad today is the last day of school for my seventeen year old.  It has been really tough to have two college siblings and a home schooling one all on vacation while he still had two weeks to go…  I am grateful that tomorrow is my husband’s last day of work before his vacation.

When I did my Pinterest inspiration last Wednesday with the black dress and tights with brown boots, I really loved the look and was immediately inspired to do another look with the black and brown.

This is the same dress and boots as in the previous inspiration.  All I did differently  was add the brown jacket and scarf.   I have to say that this jacket is one I absolutely love and my husband keeps complimenting.   It was among my new purchases of shorter jackets to elongate my petite height.

Both the jacket and the scarf are Ebay purchases.  It is cheaper to get scarfs from ebay and wait two weeks for them to arrive from China than it is to get them anywhere locally.  I discovered this over the summer and have been hooked ever since.  I will recommend checking the size of the scarf before purchasing. I purchase the scarfs from vendors that sell them between $3 and $4 with free shipping.

Here I am trying to balance on a log… And here is the link to the scarf and to the jacket. Be sure to check the sizing chart for the jacket as it runs smaller than U. S. sizing… I seem to have my hand on the bottom pocket of the jacket in every phot0 and am covering the bling.  You can see it on the link picture.

Gratitude:  I am grateful for the Holiday Season!  I am grateful that my son really got into helping with the holiday decorating this year and lifted some of the responsibility off my shoulders.  I am grateful that the tree is up and ready for when my daughter comes home on Thursday…

So,  last week I showed you my knee length coats and promised to finish this week with the shorter ones.   Here is a quick view of the ones I showed last week in case you missed them.

Now on the ones you haven’t see before:

This first one I purchased and wore all the time last year.  That was when I was 34 pounds heavier… So adjustments had to be made:

I just took the two buttons in the back and moved them over two inches and buttoned the sash piece back on which tightened it by quite a bit.

The next three are all the same coat in different colors. I bought them on clearance at the end of the season last year for just $26 each from QVC.  The first one is a merlot color. Sorry for the lighting as I was trying to get these photos done before a storm was blowing in…

These coats are all too big now, but I adjusted the above  Merlot one, by taking it from a single breasted to a double breasted and love how it turned out.  My plan is to make the same back adjustment as above to these when I lose the additional 20lbs to my goal….

Here is the navy blue one which has not been altered yet…I really needed this basic color in the shorter coat, as I had no other neutral..

And just for emphasis to show what I am really dealing with…Just another challenge to contend  with in my weight loss journey…

No need to put this one on as it also is not altered, yet and that storm is coming in….

This last one was purchased last year from Sam’s Club and did not fit me.  I knew I wanted to lose weight and bought this in anticipation of doing so.. It is a Kenneth Cole and I love it.  The hat is a recent purchase from Walmart.  I love hats!

Maybe next year, I would like to add something in brown and maybe a hounds-tooth print.  I recently saw a Calvin Klein hounds-tooth at Macy’s that I fell in love with but too expensive and no need to make big purchases until I reach my goal size…

Gratitude- I am grateful for the silence of my phone today and the cessation of the political phone calls.  I am grateful for the right to vote  and to be a citizen of The United States Of America.  I am grateful for fuzzy warm blankets to cuddle up with on cold nights.

Tomorrow I announce my first Challenge as a blogger!

Dear Readers, comments are welcomed and appreciated…

So happy that the election is over and I won’t have to keep erasing messages that keep filling up my answering machine daily.  Being in a swing state of Virginia means they get to harass you.  I almost envy my friends who only have cell phones and were not subjected to this part of the election process.  I can’t imagine what Floridians were subjected to.  Now the decision has been made.

Today I get an extra treat of a longer time to hang out with my friend at the mall while the theater children are having a rehearsal.  It is so important for stay at home mother’s to take good care of themselves and have friendships,  hobbies and even put themselves first sometimes.  I was blessed to have had a mother who set a really good example of this and I always knew this was important for me to do to ensure that I don’t give myself totally away and have regrets later or not allow my children to grow independent of me.  My children have so benefited from this and I am proud to say, I gave them wings.

I hope that some day my daughter and the wives of my son’s can say about me what I say about my mother and make good choices and support their spouses need to maintain individuality.  Don’t know why I am feeling so deep today.  I am really missing my daughter who won’t be home until Thanksgiving and am probably feeling very sentimental as my son’s 17th birthday is next weekend.  It really is the beginning of that holiday season that makes you miss loved ones who now watch over us instead of sharing our daily lives. I welcome this time to cherish their memories,  to evaluate how they helped mold me,  and to check that I am being the best version of myself.  Anyone else feeling this so early in the holiday season?

I love my new  jacket that is from Hong Kong and purchased from Ebay.  There are really a lot of feminine touches in this jacket.  My daughter has a love of Japan including their fashions and introduced me to it.  The shoulders have a really cute gathering detail that puffs up a little and the cuffs on the sleeves are an extra detail.  It does not button and is meant to hang open.  The best part of this little beauty is the back.  Loved it so much I have a photo to show you:

My husband’s insight was that it is like the Anime characters and their outfits…..Excuse the white marks. I leaned against a fence and it brushed off.  I did get it off later, so no worries. It was my husband’s suggestion to take the photos in the tree.  He really takes his role as photographer very seriously.  You should hear him suggesting how to move my head and where to place my hands….

I would really need to wear some tights with this later in the season, but don’t currently own any to match this.  So dear readers opinions are desired…. What color tights should I get for this combo?

Tomorrow I will be showing my shorter winter coats and Friday I will be announcing my first Blog Challenge, so come back and visit.

Dear Readers, Your comments are welcomed and appreciated!

Don’t for get to stop by and see all the ladies linking up with http://www.rolleduppretty.com/ and www.thepleatedpoppy.com

In the past few years I went from owning only two wool coats, both in black, one short, one long, to owning coats of all different silhouettes and colors.  I am one happy mama over my coat collection.  I just spent the week changing buttons to take my coats in for my weight loss since last year. Some were too tight and now fit as I purchased them knowing I wanted to lose weight.  I still have one or two to tweak.

I previously posted two coat pictures in the last two days and will just start off repeating those looks.  These are two photos of my Red Ruffle Front Coat.

This was before I took up the too long sleeves

And after taking up the sleeves

Next is my Puffy Purple Coat , I love this color

This is just a basic Navy coat, but a must for my collection since my mother who was very ill, worked hard on the treadmill everyday to get strong enough to take a trip to Scotland and purchased me this scarf. This scarf represents not only my mother’s strength, but her last gift before the dementia set in.

And a dressier one with a faux fur collar.  I will be adjusting this to become double breasted by moving the buttons to accommodate my weight loss.

This final one is the last of my longer, knee length coats and is a unique grey leopard print with a ruffle and a fun addition to my coat collection.

I will post the collection of shorter coats next Thursday, so come back and see my fuschia one...

Anyone who is not a new reader knows by now that I pride myself on being quite the frugal shopper.  I love to get things at awesome prices.  Accumulating my coats was such a fun endeavor,as I waited and watched for clearance off season sales and then additional bonus days.  I purchased the grey leopard coat for only $25.00 . It started off at around $139.00 and was marked all the way down to $49.00.  As a valued customer I received an email for 50% off one item and used it to secure this coat. I had coveted it  for months.   The red ruffle coat, navy  and the grey one with faux fur collar were all purchased around the same as the grey one from either Chadwicks of Boston and their sister company Metrostyle.  The purple one was on “Today’s Special” one day price with 5 interest free payments on QVC  last year and to my best recollection was around $69.00

I promised to include a photo of Connor’s Halloween Costume, which is Master Chief from Halo

Of course my generation didn’t know about Halo and were calling him Bobofet from Star Wars….

I hope everyone had a fun and safe Halloween!  I now have to have really good control and not ruin my weight loss by eating too much candy…. I am, however going to indulge in a few Tootsie Rolls.  This is gonna be tough, he brought home 11pounds of candy!

Tomorrow is Friday and I will be posting”My Lucky Finds”  from both ebay and thrifting.

Gratitude- I am grateful for the laughter of children in my life and the traditions that allow childhood to be so special.  I am grateful to my sixteen year old for helping me take the coat pictures.  I am grateful to my husband for taking my son trick or treating and my ability to stay inside and stay warm, since my sinuses are messing up…

Comments are greatly appreciated, please just go back to the top of the post to do so!

There is a story behind this dress…. I was grocery  shopping at BJ’s when I spotted this dress hanging on an upper rack. I went over to the rack and proceeded to search for my size and tried to pull the hanger down, instead the metal flat part of the rack that is there  to hide the hangers came tumbling down and smacked me in the center of my forehead.  That thing was heavy and left me stunned, nauseated and with an instant swelling bump.  I never even finished my grocery shopping, I felt so sick and then the intense pains set in.  We waited around long enough to fill out the accident report and I went home.

They sent me a gift card and I went back for the dress, but this time, I made my husband get it down from the rack. To this day if I see something I like on that rack, my husband teases me if i like it enough to risk a bump on my head.  I also purchased a mat for my kitchen that really does help when  standing at the sink.  The last purchase with that gift card was these chairs

I love the color navy and really wanted to get more than just a summer season out of this dress, so what better formula than to add a jacket, tights and boots.

Can’t even begin to express how much I love these navy boots.  There are just certain things you acquire for your wardrobe that go beyond the basic black and brown that just makes you feel special and owning faux suede navy  boots is one of those for me.  Of course these boots are so FANTABULOUS (yes I meat to combine fantastic and fabulous to make a new word) that I also have them in brown and grey.Gotta have a close up of the boots…

I also like this green jacket, which I ordered from Ebay.  I like the sparkle on the pocket, that it is stretch, short to qualify as a responsible purchase for my petite frame and that it is tight and will work as I continue to loose weight.

Gotta Love Stretch!

Another way I envision wearing this it so switch out the jacket for a dark jean jacket. but I must say that the green is a little more inspired and special.  I can also see adding a pullover sweater over it , making it look like a skirt.  The possibilities when you are looking to create a versatile wardrobe….

I Hope you enjoyed, my story, my outfit and my navy boots…

. Do you own one pair of boots that are just not the norm that makes you feel special?  Got a funny story about an item you’ve acquired?   Leave a comment and share….

If you knew me at all you would know that I am not a vest person.  In fact,  I so wanted to be last year and tried on several faux fur vests, which was totally discouraging. I I finally just gave up the pursuit.  With my weight,  I hated the look and it was so disappointing because I really wanted to like it.  So, while thrifting yesterday I saw this vest and gave it a try.  Since today was my day to hang out at the mall with other mothers while our homeschooled children go  to theater class, I opted for this look. I wanted to be super comfy because I am there  from 10 a.m-2:30pm.   This is probably the most casual outfit i have worn in ages.

It was the first chance to wear my new Bass penny loafers that I thrifted for $4 and I consider this my best find to date.

So, losing weight has it’s perks, I am finally wearing a vest!  I don’t necessarily love it, but love that I don’t dislike it either.

Included this photo for two reasons…. One to show you the colored pattern of the inside of the vest and the hood, the other to show you my St. Maarten shirt I purchased a few years ago and never wore because it was too small. Second reward for my weight loss to date.  The third is my jeans, I went through all my pants yesterday to try to find ones I had tucked away in a smaller size and found these gems.  I love  black jeans!  Straight legged and perfect fit….

I am very much a hand in the pocket person!

Gratitude- I am grateful for a wonderful day spent with two amazing Moms and women I am blessed to call my friends.
