I am chomping at the bit to wear Fall clothing…

I bought a few pieces off season over the summer that are just calling my name…

Since I am in air conditioning, I can sport this , despite our warm temps…

I bought this sweater at Burlington by Cable & Gauge

My pants are brand new as well, Old Navy, Pixie Pants..

IMG_1248

My purse and shoes are different darker shades of green than the brighter color of the sweater…

I bought these heels last September for my birthday…

They still have them at Metrostyle

IMG_1250

It felt nice to rebel and wear Fall clothing, but it was warm taking photos.

Dear Readers, I am 5ft 3in ,but wear regular length pants.. I however have shorter arms and really do better with petite tops. I don’t like limiting myself to that, but think I might see about taking some much loved pieces and have the tailor shorten them.. This sweater my be the first one in the pile as I really don’t want it to be tunic length…Yet another project for after Ireland…

Gratitude

I am grateful that my son is so patient in being my blog photographer.

I am grateful that I got a step ahead today and wrote a white board of all the things my youngest needs to do on a daily basis while I am away..

I am grateful my oldest lives nearby and will move home for a few weeks, allowing us the freedom to go to Ireland.

I am grateful that my walks are still going well and that I enjoy them so much! ( I even run the last block)

I am grateful for the wonderful smells from my kitchen as the roast is cooking..

I am grateful for my wonderful family and the love we share.

I decided to show today’s look in two ways… This was what I put on to wear for family outing to dinner…

The black and white trend can be done in so many ways and today, I decided to mix patterns for a more modern version of the trend..

IMG_0523

As my husband was taking these photos,  it occured to me that these shoes are very much what I would choose to go out with the entire family, but what could I do to take this to a date night look???IMG_0528

I decided a simple switch into my newest thrift store shoes would do the trick.. Am I living up to my blog name today???

IMG_0525

Well, of course my husband wholeheartedly agreed!

Dear Readers, this was such an easy and fun transformation…. Look for more of those kind of transistions in the future…So for those of you who are mothers, can you relate to this idea at all?   Would this little trick work for your world?  Your comments are greatly appreciated and welcomed!

Gratitude

I am grateful that I have my ten year old niece every other week for the summer.. I miss her so much during the school year!!

I am grateful for the walk (exercise) I took with my niece to the craft store looking for some summer fun!

I am grateful that my brother has freinds looking for a cheaper way for me to get an entirely new heating/cooling system, which we were told today, needs replacing….

I am grateful for my strong faith and the fact that this “bad news” didn’t even phase me..

I am grateful that while the air conditioning repairman was here that he added coolant to my husband’s van.

I saw this concept in June’s Instyle Magazine and thought, I could do that!  You’ve gotta love inspiration, we need all the help we can get as bloggers to keep going each day…

Linking Up today with Style Elixer, so check out the other wonderful bloggers!

IMG_0366This was the quickest photo shoot ever!  It was cloudy and the thunder was rolling and lightening bolts were regularly filling the sky…Literally two seconds after this photo , the rain began!

IMG_0356

This look is mostly thrifted, except for the green wedges by Chadwicks (bought last year), the necklace from Ebay and the navy belt is from a corduroy skirt that no longer fits… The top is by Liz Claiborne, thrifted for just $2 from Goodwill and the skirt is one of my most recent purchases and is by Merona from Goodwill.  This purse is among one of my most favorite ones from thrifting and perfect for summer.  I’ve always loved the color green and am so happy it is in for this season!

IMG_0351

I love these easy casual skirts for Summer, they are so comfortable and practical for My Mom On the Go lifestyle.  I wish I had more of these elastic easy waist ones… Maybe I could make a few???

Dear Readers, So this is Day two of my week of stripes.  I have to say , never having tried stripe on stripes before ,that I rather liked this and would do it again!  Come back tomorrow and see what I do next with stripes… It’s weigh in day on my journey to find my goal weight, which I keep changing my mind about.. more on that tomorrow!  Have you ever worn the Stripes on Stripes look?  Would you be willing to try it now??

Gratitude

I am grateful that the testing to meet state requirements for homeschooling  is going well.  We are halfway through!

I am grateful that the rain held out just long enough for me to get a few photos.

I am grateful for the rain and the cooler temps, with less humidity

I am grateful that my husband was able to sleep in today and go to work later.

I am grateful to readers who take the time to leave comments that cheer me on in this blogging journey!

I am grateful that the Tornado Warning that we were under didn’t turn out to be anything, despite the fact that at one point it was heading directly toward my area!

This is the final day of this week’s challenge and I had just have to say it has been so much fun!  In fact, I may do this again on my own in the future.   I love doing challenges as it spices things up and gives focus to choosing an outfit and seems to really get those creative juices flowing.

Now for the movie poster that influenced today’s outfit:

Vertigo movie poster

I am not a huge Alfred Hithcock fan, so have to confess that I have not seen this movie.  I didn’t let that deter me since the colors were inspiration enough.   I should mention that the picture of this posture that was posted on You Look Fab for inspiration looked more red than orange.  It wasn’t til I went to put it in this post that I saw the difference.

IMG_3250

If you saw yesterday’s post this skirt was one I thrifted this week and got so excited when I saw the circles, knowing I would use it for this challenge.   This is the sweater I had thrifted several weeks before that is from the same LOFT label with the black trim having the same circle pattern.

IMG_3259

With temperatures in the mid 80’s I felt inspired to remove the sweater…. I am working on getting these legs tanner using Jergens Natural Glow and this is after my second application.   With storms coming in today our temperatures are going to drop, so I actually might get to put together Spring Looks instead of Summer ones!!!

IMG_3246

I must say that this week I have really kicked into serious workout mode and when I do this I commit!   I love the feeling of muscle burn and the natural high exercise gives me.  I am not just trying to lose weight, I want a toned body as I am a two and a half years away from turning the big 5-0 and want to embrace that milestone in top shape.

Dear Readers, I hope you have enjoyed this movie poster inspiration challenge.  Do you like to find things to inspire your outfits, have you ever tried it?  If not how about doing so?  You can start with a Painting,  A photo of nature, a beautifully decorated room, any object …

Gratitude:  I am grateful for a wonderful day spent with my friend and the lunch I am hoping for next week to catch up on neglected friendships.  I am grateful that Tom had some time off this afternoon and used it to get some things done around the house.  I am grateful that I have kicked into exercise mode and can’t wait to see the results!!!

Food Journal

Notes: I use Nature’s Own Healthy White Wheat Bread that boasts more calcium as a glass of milk.  I also am switching from two yogurt servings a day to one and getting the other probiotic requirement from dark chocolate..  One piece of dark chocolate a day saves me 3 points from the yogurt and I get a piece of Chocolate everyday!!!!

Breakfast:  Omelet with Mushrooms, onions, tomatoes, italian seasoning and cheese w/green tea

Lunch:  Open Faced Sandwich – 2 Toast w/ slice of tomato topped with cheese – Broiled to melt the cheese  w/ green tea

Discovered Velveeta cheese slices for just 1 pt so use one on each toast for just 2 pts. Sometimes when items are doubled they can jump up an extra point, this one did not do so…

Snacks ;  Yogurt & Apple, 1pc  dark chocolate

Dinner:  Grilled chicken salad w/olive oil & lt italian  (gotta use up that salad)

I was suppose to go to my weigh in today, but didn’t make it due to sinus pressure headaches to the point of migraine level and nausea.  Waiting for this weather to change for relief!   My husband who never gets sick was hit with that stomach flu that my son and I dealt with last week.. He never gets sick, but this really hit hit hard.

IMG_2785

A reminder of the previous day’s look..

IMG_2811

What I would have worn if I had made it to my WW meeting today… I would have worn tights as I was cold taking these photos, but didn’t feel like asking my son to hold on while I put them on.  He so graciously squeezed in photos for me,  despite his pressure with  so much make up homework from missing 4 days of school due to that darn stomach flu…

IMG_2826

As you can see I opted to carry over the bright blue blazer , which I purchased on clearance from Chadwicks and is no longer available.  I have  worn this scarf a lot and happily it is still available Here.  The purse and dress are both thrifted.

Dear Readers, my posts today is just a quick uninspired one due to the intensity of my headache today.. Thanks for stopping by and remember I welcome and appreciate all comments.

Gratitude:  I am grateful for a phone conversation with my younger brother today, I just love him so much!  I am grateful that my husband got sick before he left the house for work as he would have pushed himself to go and been throwing up during a long drive for a corporate meeting… I am grateful that my son is on top of his make up homework and focused on doing well.  I am grateful that my daughter is taking the rejection of her PHD application so well and has a Plan B in place.

So happy that my fever is gone.  I was a lot better today, once my sinus medication set in and provided headache relief!  Another rainy and cold day… so wishing for Spring, but wearing colors to help.

IMG_2773A reminder of Yesterday’s look…

IMG_2785

So you can see my carry over item is my yellow checkered jeans( bought for one size smaller than I currently am) , which really makes me want to get back to losing and get to my goal.  With  the holidays, the flu in January and my vacation in February, I have really gotten off track.   I had to think one step ahead of how to incorporate my dress for tomorrow’s weigh-in so thought this jacket would help me with that… Yesterday I mentioned my love of buying multiples and this top is a multiple of yesterdays look.  I really love this color combo…

IMG_2001

Here is another time I wore the cobalt and yellow

Dear Readers, thanks for stopping by… Your comments are all appreciated and welcomed.  I hope you are all off to a wonderful week and taking time to remember the things you have to be grateful for. In fact I would love it you would share one thing ( or more if you like)  in your comments today..

Gratitude:  I am grateful to be feeling better.  I am grateful that I had a productive home schooling day even though it took longer than it should have (he was stalling).  I am grateful that I have a WW meeting in the morning and that I didn’t crave carbs today!  I am grateful that I had the energy to get the kitchen cleaned up and laundry put away.

As a brown haired girl, I have always preferred wearing  brown over black.  I took these photos during our warm front,  as I was so excited to get to wear skirts and dresses. I am so glad I had this as a back up for today’s post.  Sunday went by way too fast and before I knew it the Super Bowl was about to begin… It is actually 6:12 as I begin this post.

IMG_1825

I love this skirt and the lace top which are both thrifted

IMG_1844

This brown jacket is identical to the one I wore Here!  For some reason when I put on the lace top my first instinct was to run to my jewelry box to find my mother’s cameo.  Actually I am the third generation to wear this as it was originally purchased by my grandfather as a gift for my grandmother.  I believe he purchased it over seas while serving in the military during WWII.  My mother often told the story of how he left when she was a baby and returned when she was six.  I can’t imagine that.

IMG_1833

My husband was in the Navy when we met and didn’t want to stay in because he wanted to be a father and present for his children. We had our daughter one month prior to the end of  his four year commitment.  It was a sacrifice he wasn’t willing to make and wouldn’t even consider re-enlistment.  I was glad that is where is heart was and loved him for making that decision. I truly admire military families and the challenges they face and respect so much what they do for our country.

I love never knowing where my writing will take me when I start a post.  Some days I have and idea but more often than not it just flows into something like this…

Gratitude:  I am grateful that we are all about to sit down as a family to watch the Super Bowl.  I am grateful that my husband made the choice to be a father and husband and present in our lives.  I am grateful to all military personnel and their families.

Linking up with Visible Monday and Watch What I’m Wearing

As a woman who was always conscious of having a versatile wardrobe, I have held long and fast to one rule for so long I don’t even know how old I was when I first came to this.    That rule was that I never bought pants that had anything striking about them in color or adornment.  I noticed very young that some girls would have jeans with embroidery down one leg and make note of how frequently they wore them.  For some reason that bothered me.  I saw others make fun of them for how frequently they were worn and I wanted to steer clear of that kind of attention. It really stuck with me…

Now I am in my forties and everything changes….Remember this look from Last week and my New Red-Orange Skinny’s:

IMG_1434

Having lived so long with this rule, I began to question , how versatile are bright red-orange skinny jeans?  These  garnered so much attention the first time I wore them, that the question of my long held rule came to the forefront.   Now I am not at all concerned about how frequently I wear something or if someone notices I have favorites in my closet.

IMG_1477

I have several different things I do in my life with totally different groups of people so wearing things often wouldn’t even matter….But the question still remains, How versatile are jeans of this color ? How many ways can I wear them?   Hence my challenge for the week to style them each day in different ways using only what I currently have in my closet.  How many ways can I come up with?

IMG_1469

Well, today is the first day of this journey and challenge. I chose to go bold with cobalt today, what will I do tomorrow?  I will have different looks each day this week, then taper it off and chose one day a week for the remainder of this winter season to see how creative I can be.  I felt like I should be cheering for the Denver Broncos in this outfit, but I am a die hard Pittsburgh Steelers fan, even if they didn’t make the play-offs this year….

My Dear Readers, perhaps if you have questioned the practicality of such a color you can learn along the way with me….I am so excited about this and have so many ideas in my head already!  I hope you enjoy this journey with me!

Gratitude:  I am grateful that although my kids are all getting pretty sick that I still only have a mild case of sinus issues(they seem more flu-like….) I am grateful to my husband for taking a round of photos on his one day off this week to help me with this challenge.  I am grateful that the temperatures this week will be in the 50’s and 60’s this entire week(at least during the day).

It’s Visible Monday and I think these colors sure qualify so go to Not Dead Yet Style and see what other bloggers are doing this week…

I know many of you are dealing with snow and although we don’t see much of that here.  We haven’t had weather that is in the 30’s yet this season, but this past week it  has arrived. Adding in any wind and it is too cold for my liking…  I think it becomes a bigger shock when we had temperatures in the 6o’s just a week or so  ago…

IMG_1256This is my second attempt at styling my thrifted Pendleton blazer.  I chose a warm green thrifted sweater and my Diane Gilman Jeggings.

I initially tried this with black boots, but quickly scrapped those for any excuse to bring out my navy ones. I pulled my hair back today as I needed a quick photo shoot and the wind wouldn’t help that.

IMG_1265I really am getting comfortable with posing with this tree. Although I do look forward to spring and finding great locations to do photo shoots.  For now, I do appreciate the ability to just run outside and right back inside to warmth…

IMG_1267I was actually thinking that I wasn’t cold without a coat and grateful to be wearing my wool blazer when this photo was taken….

Dear Readers, I hope you are all staying warm. Don’t forget it’s Visible Monday, so see what these lovely ladies are doing for the end of 2012!

Today is my sister’s 50th Birthday!

My husband and I are going to Nags Head, NC to spend New Years at a wonderful beach house with a full house of great people and when I say full house, I mean it.  In fact my husband and I and our really good friends are sharing the room with two sets of bunk beds…

Gratitude:  I am grateful to have children old enough, so that my husband and I can go have some adult fun for a few days.  I am grateful that my children all get along well and see our going away as an adventure for them.  I am glad my children are bonding and making memories of time with each other.

I am so excited about my new pants, that I couldn’t wait until morning to post this, but is around midnight so it qualifies as tomorrow, Right?
IMG_1223

I was so happy to receive these Diane Gilman Tribal Print Jeans  yesterday and couldn’t wait to style them and wore them all day.  I was beyond thrilled when UPS came so early, as that doesn’t happen! It was windy and my hair doesn’t look good at all today….

IMG_1234

I paired these with one of my favorite jackets.  It is a microsuede swing jacket with an obi belt.  I purchased this jacket as one of my first items from the tv shopping channels. It is by Wayne Lucas Scot previous stylist on What Not to Wear.   I have worn this so much over the past two years and am so happy to report that this is going to be one of the very few items that will survive my total weight loss of about 50lbs once I get to my goal.  I also have this in brown.   I so wish this was still available to direct you to purchase because it is one of the most favorite things I have ever owned….

IMG_1249

I took this side pose so you could see how cute this jacket really is!

I have to say that I am so loving my black booties.  The heel is just the right height and does wonders to increase my leg line, which is important for us petite women. They are clearance right now at Payless for just $15.    Last year I wore mules a lot,but have found that my new love of booties has made my mules obsolete.

IMG_1240

I was thinking of what other ways I could style these pants and my first thought was to add a yellow top.  If anyone has any suggestions, I am open to hearing and trying them because I want these to be something I wear often… I found it very funny that when I showed my husband these pants online, he got that funny face as if to say , “really?”   He was still sleeping when I put this outfit together(remember he is on vacation) and when he saw my outfit he complimented it.  I reminded him of his initial reaction to the pants and he said, “well, I like them now!”   I told him I like them in green too and he repeated that he liked them.  I am not going to get the green, but am tempted…

Gratitude:  I am grateful that my husband got some much needed sleep.  I am grateful that everyone pitched in and helped me straighten up the house today.  I am grateful that we all just hung around the house today.  I am so glad my husband changed his mind about these pants!!!
