We spent the day after Christmas at the mall.  My daughter had some gift cards and was in search of clothes.  She tried on lots  and ended up with 4 pairs of jeans, a skirt and one top.  A very successful day since she tends to be very picky.  I am proud to say I made the day all about her and didn’t try on anything for myself.  A huge accomplishment for a fashion lover!

get-attachmentHere I am ready to face a very rainy day. I am wearing my Rachel Zoe raincoat which I have in both khaki and black it is currently on clearance and available on a 3 month interest free payments.  I knew right away I was wearing these boots as soon as I heard the down pour outside. The mall wasn’t as busy as it normally is the day after Christmas and store managers knew it was definitely due to the rain.  That didn’t stop us as what better place to be, but a shopping mall for a rainy afternoon?  The boys entertained themselves at Game Stop and even went to the pet store and took a Husky into one of the rooms to play with.

IMG_0614

This is me at the mall, taken with my son’s Iphone as my camera was at home with a battery that needs recharging.  We took lots of Christmas photos and I forgot to charge it back up…. The scarf was a Christmas present from my youngest child, Connor.   I know it meant a lot to him that I chose to wear it today.  I love these colors!

get-attachment (3)

While I didn’t try on anything at the mall, I did snag this scarf off the display mannequin at Sears while my daughter was in the dressing room.  She had sent me back out to get a different size when I spied this and fell hard…  I think I might be officially addicted to scarves!

get-attachment (2)Since I am showing new scarves, I should complete the job and show this one given to me by my eldest child.  He purchased it at H & M and he was worried that it was too big… It is rather wide compared to other scarves I own.  I am debating cutting it down the middle to make it less wide.  I could then give the other half  to a friend… It just has a simple straight stitch down each side to prevent it from fraying, so that would be very easy to do.

Gratitude:  I am grateful for a fun family day spent together as my husband works so much and these times when everyone is home are rare. I am grateful for time to bond and discuss fashion with my daughter.  I am grateful that my husband took the boys off and allowed my total focus to be on Ashley.  I am grateful that after playing with a Husky that they all agreed they are too high maintenance.  I am so glad that I had a chance to go back to sleep for awhile after getting up way too early this morning!

My Camera Battery is currently recharging, so better photos tomorrow!

I have really been holding out on buying skinny jeans because I didn’t want to waste money on knowing I would lose weight and surely change another size… I tried, I really tried hard… I just found myself substituting leggings and not really liking that look on me.

So, I bought these really divine “espresso” colored skinny jeans by Diane Gilman via HSN.  If you haven’t heard of her, she caters to baby boomers and their need for a higher rise not juniors low rise….  I really prefer this in my jeans after having four children and a C-sectiion.

Now I would like a do-over for some previous outfits I did using brown leggings…

IMG_0955

Of course I added a few changes this time:

IMG_1119

And Just for fun let’s do try that again, here is the one with leggings

IMG_0590

And with skinny jeans…

IMG_1135

This sweater is now getting passed onto my daughter who tried it on and liked it.  Green is a color that she loves, and I feel honored to pass it on to her….

I feel like I have redeemed myself!  So glad I gave up my self imposed rule of not getting the skinny jeans until I reached my goal weight… the truth is that I am close enough to goal to go ahead as this designer has amazing stretch and if I buy them tight now, they will work beautifully when I reach goal.  This is not my theory, I have used jeggings in this brand throughout my weight loss…

I am feeling confident that I can go ahead and purchase more from this designer while they are still available in my goal size at clearance prices.  And here is what I ordered and should have soon!

They royal blue is a tribal print, the yellow and pink are checked print and the red neon has zippers down the side….The espresso ones above also have the zippers and my one complaint is that the inside is not covered and I wore tights with them so the cold zipper was not against my leg…Knowing this I still went ahead and ordered another color… Probably because those zippers caused quite a stir among my husband and friends….

Gratitude:  I am grateful for the wonderful holiday season and time with my family.  I am grateful to be past the pain of mourning my mother and just feeling the joy of her memory!  Those two alone are so huge, that I want to take pause and just really appreciate this moment in time…It’s been a long time getting here….

Dear Readers if any of you are not at that stage in the mourning process yet, my heart goes out to you and know that it is around the corner, but takes different amounts of time for everyone.

Your comments are greatly appreciated and welcome!

Since, Today is officially the first day of Winter, I thought it was time for my faux fur vest to come out and play…  I was feeling very blue today, which I think is related to the Connecticut tragedy and the loss of my son’s school mate to brain cancer.  So  I  paired my vest with my Chambray shirt and jeggings.

IMG_1082

When taking the photos, even my seventeen year old noticed my mood… I don’t like that at all… I am also having PMS and think this is part of it as well…The sun wasn’t shining today either.  Yesterday my son ran back in to get his shades because it was so bright now no sun and tomorrow we are expecting rain. I remember the short seven months I lived in Massachusetts during the winter months and how much I missed the sun shining.  So glad my husband moved me back to Virginia.

IMG_1091

I really like how comfortable I am in this.  I have been wearing my shooties with heels a lot lately and really liked walking around in these flats.  Too bad I am finished with all the hustle and bustle and shopping because this would have made a great Mom on the Go look.

IMG_1085

Time to turn on some music and get into a better frame of mind.  Might have to remove these boots as the rubber soles won’t be good for dancing!  Even writing about music and dancing already lifted my spirit!

What do you do to take care of yourself on days you feel a little off? Dear readers, your comments are welcomed and much appreciated.

Gratitude:  I am so glad today is the last day of school for my seventeen year old.  It has been really tough to have two college siblings and a home schooling one all on vacation while he still had two weeks to go…  I am grateful that tomorrow is my husband’s last day of work before his vacation.

This look recieved the most enthusiastic reaction from my husband.  I was rather surprised that he liked the tights and booties look.  His praise wasn’t just one comment and even went so far as to suggest that my dress idea for his Christmas party lacked this kind of interest.  Notice my new haircut and color, I love it!

IMG_0878

Now it was quite a surprise that my husband was so enamored with this look.  I stripped off the jacket and belt to show him just the dress and he then became even more impressed with how I had styled it.  He wasn’t sure he even would have taken a second glance with just the dress…In fact he complimented my vision in buying the dress.

IMG_0876

I almost felt bad that this was not an outfit I had chosen for a night out with him.  In fact he was getting ready to head to work when this entire discussion took place.  I knew he loved this jacket and that his favorite color is red, so his reaction really shouldn’t be so surprising except that he isn’t usually so enthusiastic about my clothing choices. Complimentary, yes, “over the moon”, no…

IMG_0887

I have to say that his reaction sure made it easy for me to hold my head high and walk with confidence on my outing… I must have been beaming as I noticed a few looks from a couple of men around my age at Panera Bread…. Definitely going to repeat this outfit on a day when my husband and I have time together.

Gratitude: I am grateful that I finally figured out what to wear to the Christmas party.  I am grateful that my three kids got together and raked the leaves.  I am grateful for my own inner drive to recommit to the Fluidity exercise program.  I am grateful for the support of my family and friend Sue who endured my search for the Christmas party outfit.

Outfit Total -excluding necklace – $37.00

Dress-thrifted $3.50

Jacket-ebay$12.50

Boots- Aigner $10.00

Tights-$5

Belt-thrifted $2.00

Purse-Nine West thrifted- $4.00

I am such a feminine woman most of the time, but every once in awhile I really like to channel my inner tough girl, rock star… That reminds me of one of my favorite songs as a teenager by REO Speedwagon. “Tough Guys”.  For those of you not blessed with ADD you may not get the tough girl connection to that song, but an ADD brain can connect any two things and that one was close enough to make sense… You should see my husband scratch his head and ask, “how did you make that leap?”

IMG_0775

I think for every woman feeling tough involves different things, for me it’s leather and this time snakeskin jeggings…

I really love my new burgundy moto jacket that I purchased recently from Forever 21.  I chose the burgundy instead of black because the black just didn’t feel like me and felt more harsh.  This color just felt right.  I also liked a green one I saw as well and really wavered.  Burgundy won out since I don’t have as much of that color in my wardrobe as I would like.

IMG_0782

This tassel necklace is from Avon and I am not sure if it is still available because I purchased it several months ago and if my memory serves me correctly it was out of a clearance catalog.  I hope to get a lot of use out of this necklace because I love the length and it does a lot to fill in the space and is a good way to lengthen my petite body.  I think anything that creates that long vertical line helps, which is why I am so partial to scarfs.

IMG_0780I felt so good in this outfit and have real love for these boots.  They are by Twiggy London via HSN.  I regret not taking a photo to show you the purple bottom on these.  They are fur lined so really for colder weather.   The best part about wearing this outfit was when my 17 year old told me he wouldn’t be embarrassed if he ran into a friend while we were out shopping…It doesn’t take much to embarrass our children, so I had to ask…

I wear sunglasses a lot as my eyes are light and sun sensitive and can lead to headaches very easily…

Gratitude:  I am grateful for the holiday season and the chance to spend quality time with my children.   I am grateful for the fun of putting up the tree with Nicholas for the first time (something Ashley and I traditionally have done)….I am grateful for my newfound energy to kick up the exercise and my commitment to reaching goal weight. Today I am traveling to Farmville, VA to pick my daughter up from Longwood University for winter break and I am grateful for the road trip with my husband and sons, as well as the beginning of several weeks with my daughter!

Dear Readers your comments are welcomed and greatly appreciated..

The very first time I wore this my 12 year old son took one look at me and exclaimed, “You look like a rock star’s girlfriend!”.  I wish everyone had a child like my Connor in their life….He is so good for my soul.  I always would tell the children “God said I bless you and gave me (their name).  I will never forget the day I said this and my third child who was about 10 at the time said, “And he saved the best for last”.   Such an unusual statement from one brother of his younger brother and a moment I will forever cherish.

IMG_0824

Now, as for this jacket, I literally stalked it for months.  I love animal print and fell hard for this at first sight.  Being a woman who likes a bargain, I only hesitated in buying it immediately because I wanted a good deal.  Before anyone asks where I got it, I apologize, but it is no longer available….

IMG_0817

I found it on the Metrostyle website and waited for a holiday when they e-mail me special discount codes and as soon as one came I ordered it right away.  It was worth the wait and is a favorite that makes me smile every time I wear it or even just see it in my closet.

IMG_0822

Does anyone else love zebra print?  I now own zebra print:

v-neck t-shirt

Slingback Heels

Scarf

Belt

I think that is enough and I will not buy any more in this print.  I have to have some limits for my animal prints or they could take over.   One of my life codes is “Everything in moderation, Balance, anything in excess is not healthy!”

Gratitude:  I am grateful to my friend for taking me thrifting today and the fun we always have.  I am grateful for the growth and maturity of my adult children.  I am grateful for the new Weight Watcher 360 program and the concentration on all aspects of weight loss of mind, body, soul…

When I did my Pinterest inspiration last Wednesday with the black dress and tights with brown boots, I really loved the look and was immediately inspired to do another look with the black and brown.

This is the same dress and boots as in the previous inspiration.  All I did differently  was add the brown jacket and scarf.   I have to say that this jacket is one I absolutely love and my husband keeps complimenting.   It was among my new purchases of shorter jackets to elongate my petite height.

Both the jacket and the scarf are Ebay purchases.  It is cheaper to get scarfs from ebay and wait two weeks for them to arrive from China than it is to get them anywhere locally.  I discovered this over the summer and have been hooked ever since.  I will recommend checking the size of the scarf before purchasing. I purchase the scarfs from vendors that sell them between $3 and $4 with free shipping.

Here I am trying to balance on a log… And here is the link to the scarf and to the jacket. Be sure to check the sizing chart for the jacket as it runs smaller than U. S. sizing… I seem to have my hand on the bottom pocket of the jacket in every phot0 and am covering the bling.  You can see it on the link picture.

Gratitude:  I am grateful for the Holiday Season!  I am grateful that my son really got into helping with the holiday decorating this year and lifted some of the responsibility off my shoulders.  I am grateful that the tree is up and ready for when my daughter comes home on Thursday…

One of my favorite sites is 40plusstyle and Sylvia issued a challenge to come up with two outfits that had three colors and a pattern.  I looked through my pictures since I began my blog in October,  and was surprised that I did two colors and a pattern very often, but not three.  Since my goal for starting this blog was to challenge myself to go above and beyond my normal styling habits, this was interesting to me.

It just so happened that I had already planned Monday’s outfit which I think totally qualifies:

And of course Tuesday’s,  which I am submitting for the challenge:

Funny, how I chose these two photos, with similar poses… the above outfits are mostly thrifted excluding the boots, while today’s new outfit only includes one thrifted item…Thrif

Today I decided to try for just one more, but this time wanted to do it with pants instead of a dress.  I also wanted to not include black in this version.  Here is what I came up with :

I really just wanted to share in case any of you, my dear readers wanted a thought provoking moment of asking yourself if you succeed with doing three colors and a print in your looks.  If not it is something new to inspire you….If so congratulations, you are more advanced than I am at adventurous styling.

I will keep this in mind, along with pattern mixing and see if I can incorporate it more instead of the two colors I had been doing.  I love learning and trying new things in creating my style….

I really love these Aigner boots that I found on a super clearance deal in the spring.  I have to say the heel height is very comfortable and I could walk in these all day, so would make a perfect Mom on the Go look..

Gratitude: I am grateful for this blog and the adventures I am having. I am grateful to my oldest son who cleaned up the kitchen without being asked…I am grateful to my husband for realizing he was talking all about his job and stopping to ask me how my blog was doing.

As Always Dear Readers, I welcome and appreciate your comments.  Please stop by tomorrow and see “My Lucky Find’s ”  where I scored six dresses from Goodwill.

Tuesdays are always a day where I get up feeling anxious and rush to the scale first thing after I get up or should I be honest and confess that I go to the bathroom first, can’t weigh in til I make sure to release any possible extra weight…

I then spend my morning running back and forth between the scale making sure that the outfit I chose doesn’t make the number go up…. I think I must weigh myself at least 5 times before I leave for my meeting.  I swear I have no other obsessive compulsions.  This is it, all brought on by facing a scale….Notice I wear leggings on weigh in days. they weigh less than other pants…

Why do I give that darn thing so much power in my life, why can’t I just wake up and let the chips fall where they may instead of obsessing for two hours every Tuesday morning?  This next photo is a close up just to emphasize how windy it was…

I really shouldn’t complain I chose Weight Watchers because I wanted the accountability of weighing in and keeping on top of this. The scary part is that I chose WW because I wanted the accountability for the rest of my lifetime…

I sure hope when I reach that point of just maintaining that I can not be so obsessed with stepping on the scale every morning as my first waking thought is “Well, did I do ok, yesterday?”

I guess after not stepping on a scale for years while I ate emotionally and put on this weight means I have to change something, but I always say “Any thing in excess is not good for you.”

Part of this journey has to be finding the balance and not obsessing over stepping on the scale so many times a day… It is something to aim for later, but for right now it is my security blanket and I am not ready to give it up.

After suffering severe sinus pressure headaches that felt more like migraine’s  Sunday & Monday and the sore throat and fever I now am experiencing, I am not going to my WW meeting.  No worries that will not become a habit.  I actually look forward to my meetings.

My scale says that I gained .4lbs,but then again it was just 4 am and that is never what time I start weighing myself..  Who knows it could make perfect since with eating out, sitting still these past two days and let’s add in PMS and my aching swollen chest… Since I am up, going to post this now and head right back to bed.

The big question is can I eat really well and indulge just a little on Thanksgiving and still have a loss next week.  I’m going to try! I am not giving up stuffing and rolls just this once…  Will let you know next Tuesday on the next Weigh In Day….

Outfit Details

So,  last week I showed you my knee length coats and promised to finish this week with the shorter ones.   Here is a quick view of the ones I showed last week in case you missed them.

Now on the ones you haven’t see before:

This first one I purchased and wore all the time last year.  That was when I was 34 pounds heavier… So adjustments had to be made:

I just took the two buttons in the back and moved them over two inches and buttoned the sash piece back on which tightened it by quite a bit.

The next three are all the same coat in different colors. I bought them on clearance at the end of the season last year for just $26 each from QVC.  The first one is a merlot color. Sorry for the lighting as I was trying to get these photos done before a storm was blowing in…

These coats are all too big now, but I adjusted the above  Merlot one, by taking it from a single breasted to a double breasted and love how it turned out.  My plan is to make the same back adjustment as above to these when I lose the additional 20lbs to my goal….

Here is the navy blue one which has not been altered yet…I really needed this basic color in the shorter coat, as I had no other neutral..

And just for emphasis to show what I am really dealing with…Just another challenge to contend  with in my weight loss journey…

No need to put this one on as it also is not altered, yet and that storm is coming in….

This last one was purchased last year from Sam’s Club and did not fit me.  I knew I wanted to lose weight and bought this in anticipation of doing so.. It is a Kenneth Cole and I love it.  The hat is a recent purchase from Walmart.  I love hats!

Maybe next year, I would like to add something in brown and maybe a hounds-tooth print.  I recently saw a Calvin Klein hounds-tooth at Macy’s that I fell in love with but too expensive and no need to make big purchases until I reach my goal size…

Gratitude- I am grateful for the silence of my phone today and the cessation of the political phone calls.  I am grateful for the right to vote  and to be a citizen of The United States Of America.  I am grateful for fuzzy warm blankets to cuddle up with on cold nights.

Tomorrow I announce my first Challenge as a blogger!

Dear Readers, comments are welcomed and appreciated…
