Happy Birthday, Mom!

Posted on: July 1, 2013

I am writing this in the evening of July first knowing it will be seen on July 2nd and my heart feels heavy missing my mother…Happy Birthday, Mom you are loved and missed every day!

July 2 1939 was her birthday…. Seems like this year is hitting me harder with my daughter having just graduated from college and my mother being gone for 4 years now..I miss having the role of daughter and the unconditional love only a parent can provide.

I was lucky that before heading out to go grocery shopping that the rain took a break!  I bought these pants and the kimono style sheer jacket at Steinmart last December on a super clearance sale with extra 50% off.  I paid just $7.00 combined for both pieces..

I actually needed the sunglasses… on this rainy day… wait, no the sun made an appearance, disappeared , reappered all day long..

Not the best hair day… I did like how this outfit came together and the neutral shoes and purse to balance the cobalt.

Dear Readers,  I am not looking forward to weigh in day today… I woke up Monday morning and had unexplicably gained over 2lbs.  I really think this is due to hormonal menopause stuff, but doesn’t matter, still stings… Not one to sit and pout about things,, I look for solutions and I have one… Going to sign back up for the Y again… more details on that with my Weigh In post tomorrow!

Gratitude

I am grateful for the company of my niece today as I went grocery shopping at three stores today! (exhausting)

I am grateful to my daughter for washing pots and pans.

I am grateful to my husband for saying, “I like your outfit! ” as soon as he saw me.(Nice surprise that he was home when I brought the BJ’s stuff home),

I am grateful to the employee at Kroger who complimented my niece’s maxi dress and the smile it brought to her face.

I am grateful that BJ’s had a clearance sale on scarves and I was able to pick up the leopard one my niece mentioned earlier that she wanted , for just $5!   Privilege of being an Aunt!

Your kimono is so pretty! That is one style that I have never tried. I can imagine how hard it is for you with this being your mom’s birthday. Take care and celebrate in your mom’s honor 🙂

It is funny…yesterday, reading your blog, I was thinking how I identified with your life and fashion choices. I have been missing my mother terribly. She died about a year and a half ago from Alzheimers, my dad has dementia… your comment about missing the unconditional love only a parent can give just struck a chord. It is hard to understand this until you no longer have it.

Yes we take things for granted… So sorry for your loss and your current situation. I am grateful my mother passed before she forgot any of us. Being a caregiver was tough on me and resulted in me using food to medicate my feelings(something I’d never done before). I hope you are taking good care of yourself!

Your kimono jacket is pretty and I like that purse! When I recently found your blog, I also was thinking that we have similarities. I can relate to what you are feeling; however, today is the date that my grandma passed away 30 years ago. She had Alzheimer’s before it had a name and nobody knew what was wrong. She lived with us the last 3 years, and it was very sad to see her decline. Now, my dad (her son) has Alzheimer’s. It has been extremely sad to watch. He no longer talks nor walks and is unable to feed himself. It’s really hard, especially for the grandkids, knowing the person he was. I am now taking care of myself, watching my diet and trying to exercise.

It is a tough time and journey, so glad to hear that you are are taking care of yourself through this. Thanks for sharing your story as it is one so many go through and can relate to.
I thrift a lot of my purses but that snakeskin one is one I bought through QVC on their interest free payment plans.. Plainning on having it for a long time…
