Versatile Style by Tracey

Archive for the ‘Orange’ Category

Today, I was suppose to go to my Weight Watcher meeting and had this outfit all planned out.

Getting enough sleep reigns supreme in my life, so I opted to go back to bed and get some much

needed rest, as too many nights in a row without had taken it’s toll.

Here is the outfit I had ready for the day.

When I put it on and looked in the mirror , I instantly thought

“Oh , there I am! ”

It became glaringly obvious to me that I have not been myself

these last 6 months and even my style choices  were exhibiting that.

The awesome vest adds just the right wonderful element of texture to the tone on tone look.

It is by Indigo Thread, a very boho company I adore.

Here is the link to my vest which is limited to one color now and Here is all the vests they offer now.

My turtle necklace was handmade by sister and is much loved and cherished.

My saddle bag style cross-body purse is by Naturalizer and sold out.

This will probably be last purse purchased for a while as I am pretty satisfied with what I have.

I did recently throw away my beautiful green leather one and told my kids and husband that they should put in on my

birthday wish list as it was the first purse I bought myself after years of using diaper bags and sadly was beyond repair.

I love how my hair color bookends the purse shade.

One last note , if you haven’t tried block heeled shoes yet,

I highly recommend it as these are so comfortable to walk in.

Alas they too are Naturalizers and sold out because I always buy off season on clearance.

Gratitude

I am grateful that I took care of me today and skipped my WW meeting because nothing replaces the need for sleep. As for my WW journey so far,

it has been a slow first month with just over 3lbs lost, but I have managed to use my Simply Fit board to lose 3 inches from the 7 I gained in my stomach from menopause!

I am grateful that my husband too got to catch up on sleep and didn’t have to go to work until 2:30pm today!

I am grateful that my kids are so supportive of each other and truly care deeply.

I am grateful that our allergy laden Lhasa Apso is currently at the vet with two of my adult kids.

Sunday was 83 degrees , today 62!

My sinuses are so not happy with these extreme daily changes.

This might be the craziest October I can remember.

img_4560

I am struggling with this Marla Wynne sweater  I bought on clearance

. I  actually think I should have styled it and played around with it when  bought  it.

Unfortunately, I tucked it away awaiting for Fall to arrive.

It’s more volume than I like and in the other pictures I don’t think it’s flattering me at all.

Since the window of when I can return it has passed, it won’t go to waste as it will

be great lounge wear for around the house.

img_4564

My top is Kate & Mallory found Here , on clearance in other patterns as well.

While I may not be pleased with the volume of my topper, I am loving that

after having them on wish list for 3 years that I finally found a lighter tan ankle boot.

These Vionic boots are very comfortable and will be getting a lot of wear this season.

In this look it’s great for helping to extend the leg line with the tone matching my pants.

There is a great video demonstrating the orthotics of these shoes and why I am so in love with these!

img_4571

My choker and lariat necklace are getting paired together a lot and with

maximalism on trend now I feel totally inspired to add in a pin

that was my mother’s and one I usually add to a chain to wear as a necklace.

It’s such a fun zany shape and I adore it !

img_4567

I am loving just letting my hair dry and spritzing it with some  texturizing spray.

Not Your Mother's Beach Babe Texturizing Sea Salt Spray 8 fl oz

Found on Amazon Here

Gratitude

I am grateful that despite these crazy swings in temperature that I remain headache free after last weeks bout of migraine cluster headaches for 5 days.

I am grateful for the last minute fun of my kids carving pumpkin’s together this afternoon.

I am grateful that we had enough trick or treaters that my two handing out candy felt like they had a good time (one year we had only 3 kids )

I am grateful that my husband had a successful day at work

I am grateful for the fun group text we do as a family, exchanging photos of the pets antics, food they make or any other fun way of staying connected when we are all not together.

img_4575

Daughter 25 and my youngest dressed up to hand out candy.

img_4576

My daughter is into cosplay and she wore this last year for Halloween in Salem, MA

as she was at Boston College and had a fun day getting her picture taken quite a bit.

img_4578

He was having fun doing poses, he’s just missing his light saber.

I’ve taken quite a break from regular blogging and have missed it terribly.

I am ready to get back on track , especially since Fall is arriving and it’s my

favorite season for outfits.

img_4364

I am faking Fall , as our temperatures are still in the high 70’s.

I bought these new rust colored pants from Jane.com .

The top is new for the season as well.

I began adding more purple to my wardrobe last Fall and this

was just an additional top to mix in and add more versatility to those pieces.

img_4366

My wavy hair is what it looks like when I just let it dry naturally,

and my photographer teen son said to me as we were walking outside

to take photos, ” Are you going to do anything with your hair?”

I just laughed….

img_4381

I am wearing my amethyst necklace ,

along with the tassel one my daughter gave me as a Christmas gift.

I recently showed DH a beautiful amethyst bracelet at BJ’s ,

that I hinted at as a Christmas present.

img_4374

I am looking forward to being able to transition this

look for cooler temperatures by adding a cardigan or

a leather jacket into the mix.

Gratitude

I am grateful that I found my prescription sunglasses , as I accidentally left them at Panera Monday night when we had dinner with my oldest son who turned 30!!!!

I am grateful that he was happy about turning 30 and liking how he’d handled his 20’s and the person he is today.

I am grateful that I ordered myself a Bissell Steam Mop and that when it arrived today, that my son and daughter were just as excited as I was to try it out on the den the floor.

I am grateful for Football Season and that my game is televised , so I can stay home and watch it…

Some Bloggers would consider this outfit

too matchy-matchy with orange accents everywhere…..

_20160615_143452

I absolutely could have switched out the purse for a blue one and in fact ,

almost did, but in the end I wanted to get more use out of the butterly tote,

which makes me feel my mother’s spirit.

_20160615_143620 (1)

My blue espadrilles would have paired nicely with this oufit as well.

When you added fun orange ones for the season, one can’t help but delight in using

that pop of color when possible.

_20160615_143325

This floral tank with greens and oranges is one I bought from Jane.com,

in my continued effort to get less form fitting ones into my wardrobe.

The orange sweater is one I thrifted a few years ago and a necessity

for my trip to the frigid AC at the bowling alley this afternoon.

Gratitude

I am grateful that my Oberweiss Delivery of greek yogurt came before I had to leave for bowling, as they put it in the porch in a cooler, but with this kind of heat , I wouldn’t trust it for very long….

I am grateful for the funny moment when we had all rushed to get ready for the 11am bowling and were in the car when I looked at my phone and saw I had missed a Facebook chat where our group had changed it to 3:30.

I am grateful for Netflis and my Smart tv that DH won for his sales success, I am having so much fun finding BBC shows.

I am greatful for sunshine and summer days that are a definite slower pace with college kids home.

I am grateful that I finished this blog post right before heading out to bowling and won’t have to try to squeeze it in after dinner.

With many solid bottoms, it’s fun to find a shirt that already has the

Pattern Mixing done for you.

Alas this one is from Jane.com and is always gone by the time it’s delivered to me.

Be Honest, My Dear Readers, Did I make this too much like Halloween with the

addition of the black vest?  LOL

_20160602_185221

I must say that taking photos and starting up blogging is going to

be great motivation to keep me eating right and exercising.

It’s impossible to see photographic evidence and not stay on track,

so despite whehter I am thrilled with an outfit or not,

I am going to post with glee knowing that I am on the path to

changing and hoping to go back and see the differences

in glaring truth that the mirror fails to show, but a camera shouts in alarming tones, lol.

_20160602_185513

One of my favorite things about the wardrobe I created from

this blogging journey are pieces that allow me to create different silhouettes.

In just days I’ve done a short straight skort, cropped pants and now the flowy long skirt.

This is so important to my not getting bored and using clothes as my artistic expression.

_20160602_185618

Dear Readers, I am having success with the 17 Day Diet, losing over half a pound a day.

Here’s what I ate to day to give you an idea of how I am being successful.

Breakfast

2 hard boiled eggs

Plum

Green Tea

Lunch

 Greek Yogurt/Strawberries/ Green Tea Smoothie

Dinner

Salad greens, cucumbers, tomatoes and grilled chicken

Green Tea

Snacks

Greek Yogurt -100 calorie

Tazo Chocolate Chai Tea

The recommendation is to have 4 cups of Green Tea and I drink 12 oz at a time.  On some days if I feel hungry I will get another snack which I’ve done Tuna & Celery or a Nectarine.   This Phase one is very restrictive with just poultry and fish for proteins, 2 probiotics , 2 fruits and plenty of veggies.

After Day 3 the cravings went away and I am not feeling deprived at all.

Phase Two has you add some healthy carbs every other day.

Gratitude

I am very grateful to my daughter who got started today helping to homeschool my youngest with Math and Science.

I am grateful that my 20 year old loves to cook and made Turkey Burgers for his siblings and father tonight.

I am grateful that my husband had a late appointment, giving him the opportunity to sleep in and still have time to change out the water in the Turtle Tank.

I am grateful for a quiet peaceful moring all to myself as the rest of the family slept til noon. ( I am really happy there are no witnesses to my morning ballet moves in the kitchen, lol)

Today, I thought I would put together a look

featuring new green pieces I added for the Season.

_20160601_191631

Unfortunately, this is the only picture I liked from the set.

This blogging when I am very unhappy with my weight is going to be tough!

It is what it is and I am soldiering on as I use the

17 Day Diet, Pilates, Yoga and and walking to

melt that weight away .

Wedges and Kimono are from Jane.com and my purse is thrifted.

My cropped pants are Petites from Liz Claiborne NY via QVC

Gratitude

I am grateful for a reprieve from the rain.

I am grateful for an afternoon of bowling with my two youngest. .

I am grateful that my oldest took me up on my invitation to come for dinner and was there when we came home from our bowling and grocery shopping.

I am grateful that my three boys spent the evening playing card games, which my oldest brought with him. ( this is something my oldest has done a few times and is a fabulous way for sibling brothers ages, 16,20 and 29 to connect)

I am grateful for my Facebook friend who is such an inspiration in her 60’s doing Beach Body workouts for posting a shout out that she’d done her workout with no excuses and challenging others to do the same.

I am grateful that on the beginning of day 4 , (today, Weds) I stepped on the scale and saw a 3 pound weight loss!

Today’s Color Inspiration was Orange…

I originally had paired this with a navy sweater, but

as a Steelers Fan, it was too soon to wear anything near

Broncos, colors… Lol

DSC_2902-2

I opted for a white cardigan and felt it certainly matched

our Spring like temps in the 60’s….

DSC_2906-2

This Liz Lange tunic has this awesome waist detail that is actually

white mother of pearl, so the white sweater makes even more sense…

My hoop earrings are orange, and a gift from my daughter.

DSC_2910-2

I don’t think I will ever be able to wear these fringe boots without thinking of

my husband calling them my “Clydesdale boots”

DSC_2916-2

I am loving this color inspiration week and am surprised at how many

outfits I threw together and now have ready to wear it my closet…

Tomorrow’s Color is PINK… since it is one of Pantones color of the year, that’s perfect!

Self Care

Today in self care, I shared some ideas of better self care with my son on his poor diet and came up with a plan of better choices he could be making.  It went well and in the process I convinced my husband to do a family event trying cottage cheese with fruit as it’s a great punch of protein and something we don’t typically eat… So, we have an Oberweiss delivery happening tomorrow with more Greek Yogurt (now that son has agreed to smoothies)  and their cottage cheese for us all to give it a try… As I am typing this DS just asked me to go to the story to grab some mozzerella cheese sticks… Guess he really did listen!   Off to the store, then back to write my gratitude for the day…

Gratitude

I am grateful to my Facebook friend who posted her after work out snack of cottage cheese, bannana and what looked like cinammon-  that sparked my conversation with my guys who both were open to at least experimenting with it.

I am grateful for a fun walk to the store to pick up cheese sticks and canned fruit, I also got pumpkin seeds as I’ve been reading all kinds of benefits from them…

I am grateful for a nice day in the sixties before our temps drop and may bring snow by the end of the week.

I am grateful for plenty of sleep last night, can’t ever take that for granted!

I am grateful that my son had another day off school and that VCU is being cautious with so many commuter students.

Today began the long awaited, GYPO Winter Style Challenge

At least for some, hard to do so when your temperatures are in the mid-70’s.

DSC_2376-3

Today’s look was suppose to include a tunic top, fur vest and knee high riding boots.

I chose a lace top, and open weaved cardigan that isn’t big on warmth.

DSC_2391-2-2

It feels nice to get dressed as, I have not been daily this past two weeks.

I have a feeling I am going to be making lots of subsitutions for the GYPO challenge outfits.

That’s not surprising as I’ve always gone against the grain.

I think my dear mother is responsible for that, I remember one year when I was in 7th grade and a madrigal in chorus for the Christmas concert where we were suppose to wear white blouses and red long skirts.  My mother had made me a red-gingham checkered one as my Christmas church outfit , so we got permission for me to wear it.

Since I was the one who spoke up and introduced songs, it made sense that I dressed slightly differently.

I have two other oufits I wore recently but didn’t post yet, so here goes.

IMG_20151210_003210

This was what I wore last Wedsneday for my son’s homeschool bowling day.

I love my Kate & Mallory jacket and ponte knit leggings.

My tunic is a Burlington Coat Factory find.

IMG_20151212_075950

This was my look for Parent’s Night Out dinner

and my first outing after my fall and subsequent concussion.

I love the long knit Susan Graver Cardigan and have it in chocolate brown as well as the navy.

I have a small on in this sweater and always size down in that clohing line from QVC.

Gratitude

I am grateful for the support of family, friends, readers and online community members who all had compassion and wished me a speedy recovery from my concussion and fall.

I am grateful that I am feeling much better and sleeping ok.

I am grateful that my son finished his exams today and will be home tomorrow.

I am grateful that my son away at college has been playing games on the Iphone together with his younger brother, as the anticipation of having his siblings come back has really made him feel lonley this week.

I am grateful for a fun football weekend where both our teams won and the comraderie of our son who set his study schedule around watching both our games to stay connected with us…

I am grateful that my youngest buckled down and finished Lord of the Flies.

I loved this outfit in the mirror….

Upon seing the photos, I wonder if the pattern mixing between

the scarf and these Old Navy tropical print pants is a little too much?

So My Dear Readers I thought I’d let you weigh in

DSC_2050

I bought these Old Navy Ankle pants to wear in the Fall with this new orange faux leather.

This jacket is by Kate & Mallory and has zip off sleeves that allow it to become a vest.

But when I bought it I got a black one too , so I can actually add the black sleeves to this as well.

I Should have taken photos to show you, but alas it was raining and this little lady wasn’t feeling her best today.

It comes in 7 colors, sizes xs to 3x  and is $41.36 and is available on 6 no interest value pays of $6.89

DSC_2051-2

The reason I am questioning this pattern mixing

is the addition of the teal in the scarf print.

I love pattern mixing and this is the first time I think I like it ,

but wonder if I am kidding myself.

DSC_2062

These Not Rated fringe booties from Amazon are going to get so much use, this season.

I can’t wait to wear them with a dress and tights.

My hobo style purse is sold out by Gili via QVC,

but they have some other great options HERE

Dear Readers, Thank you for voting regarding this pattern mixing!

Hope you all have a wonderful HUMP DAY!

Gratitude

I am grateful that my morning headache got better throughout the afternoon.

I am grateful that when the electricity went off, that it came right back on!

I am grateful for the fun laughter we had as my son was in the shower when everything went dark.

I am grateful that we have homeschool bowling to look forward to on Wednesday.

I am grateful that I’ve been sleeping much better.

If you had asked me If’ I’d Ever Wear

Over the Knee Boots  a few year Ago,

I’d have answered with a Emphatic Negative Response.

DSC_1846

That’s Why One Should Never , Say Never!

I stand by my initial reaction to the idea of over the knee boots because

years ago, they didn’t come in this riding boot style, but were more the hooker heeled versions.

This is a tale of being willing to give things a try, because even this flat version didn’t appeal to me, out of fear that it wouldn’t work for my 5 feet 3 inch height challenge.

DSC_1855

I do think these work for a few reasons.

The first would be that I am blessed as a petite woman to have

my mother’s  Campbell family genetic long legs.

I may be petite , but I can never wear petite length pants.

The other reason these work for me is that they barely come to the top of my knee.

Their are varieties I’ve seen that are not just over the knee, but thigh highs.

Dabbling in this boot style, I opted for this pair from Chinese Laundry

DSC_1862

I loved the opportunity, to wear my orange hoop earrings that my daugter gave me.

I also love any chance to wear Orange lipstick.

DSC_1851

My photographer  accidentally took a photo of his shadow.

orange

I had to take the opporunity to dress like Fall today

because our temperatures were in the low 70’s now, but

going back up to 80 tomorrow.

Dear Readers, Have you tried something you didn’t think would work for you and

were pleaseantly surprised?

Gratitude

I am grateful that my husband had a successful day today and some fun along the way.

I am grateful that I trusted my instincts on my walk to the grocery store. I heard a woman on the phone almost in tears saying she was giving in and just wanted to go knock on her father’s door and admit she need help because she couldn’t take another night in the shelter.  She went on to say she needed help with bus fare but no one was willing to help her.  I walked past her into the store, took out $3 and walked outside and handed it to her. She gasped into the phone and said , “OH My, someone just gave me the bus fare, I can do it now!” I was walking away as she was proclaiming , “Bless You, Thank you so much”  One  wonders if the truth is being told in these circumstances , but when I came out of the store she was gone and I saw her at the BLVD  bus stop, I was glad I trusted my instincts.

I am grateful that my college son who texts me a lot , actually called to talk to me tonight. He is troubled about the college shooting and asking the same question my oldest asked, ” What if you answered that you were Spiritual not Religious? ” How would the shooter have reacted?  I know so many college students have to be wondering what would have happened if they had been in that room.  so sad!
